For yesterday,
It was nearly 8 by the time we all woke up, as my Mum would have said we must have needed it!
Driving to the yard and had to stop for a family of ducks making their way to a village pond, love a waddling duck.
With my girlie, some work done in lunge pen and she was a good girl, she is really into the liberty work and at one point squealed in excitement as I turned one way and then the other in rapid succession, lovely stuff but boy do I miss riding my pony. Coffee with my friend afterwards and handed out presents to lovely yard staff, labelled from Missy of course.
My DB dropped in for a cuppa and a present exchange in the afternoon, we will see him next Friday.
Easy tea of oven fish & chips then listened to the football, another win for Utd.6 -
Brian Bilston’s “Traditional Family Christmas” (Google it - it’s on Twitter-as-was) is Wonderful & my glorious eccentric maddening family have taken it to their collective hearts…Ah. Dementia can make a complete hash of careful considered gifting, and my sizzling-cross sister was soothed by listening & reassurance (& a bit of character assassination) & then online retail fixit. After all, a present delivered to your home saves you carrying it, doesn’t it? And arriving in the New Year extends the fun…Engineer son trimming sprue off raw plugs using secateurs (“as they were handy”), & has a list of things to “pick up” - “borrowing” lock & lock boxes (batch cooking!), a saw as an old wardrobe won’t fit into the car (& just kicking it might damage his car interior) etc He’s trying Gousto & amusingly unimpressed with portion sizes & their eco-unfriendly packaging. “All that plastic, mum”!Babysis has agreed to get a mammogram done as my Christmas present. At some stage I will get a photo of a slightly bewildered radiographer… Peace of mind is priceless. Mind, I’ve a smear test booked for that same peace of mind. All is calm, family WhatsApp reports uncle hanging cards hasn’t fallen off the stool. Some days I do wonder if we shouldn’t be in a slightly more secure institution than family, but <shuts up lest she tempts Fate>
Health Strength Love & Courage to all as have need, and the very best of luck with the coming hours & plans.8 -
Hello.
Quickly popping in before the chaos that is Christmas officially begins.
Recent pleasures:
1) Nowhere near 100% but both feeling quite a lot better. Taking it all a day at a time as to look too far ahead is exhausting so steady away and sitting down as and when we can.
2) Our traditional Christmas Eve eve Curry Night is about to start - just the grown ups and a chance to double check all plans ready for the festivities to begin.
3) Everything prepped in readiness for the boys to decorate the cake and chocolate log tomorrow, ice and decorate the Christmas tree biscuits, put out a mince pie and sherry for Santa and a carrot for Rudolph. Suggested last year the older boys were perhaps past all this prep but they were most upset at the thought of being left out so Santa hats will be worn, Christmas songs will be played and icing and decorations will be put on everything that doesn't dodge out of the way. It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas....
4) Whats Apps backwards and forward from brothers and sister, we all had a laugh at how our Christmas traditions echo those of our parents. We all still do the cider and orange glazed ham, dad's Christmas terrine and orange and almond shortbread just like they always did. There's a lot of them in all of us!
5) Son's partner's mum is coming to stay for New Year so we will get to meet up finally. Will have a meal together on NY Eve and then we are away to Wiltshire NY Day for a few days to celebrate my baby brother's 65th birthday.
May not get here again before the big day so would like to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas. Thank you for a year of sharing your pleasures and support, it's a great place to hang out and I hope you all have a good time over the festive season x7 -
Up early.
Another day of wild wind and rain.
Hairdressers at 9am.
Out with DD2 for a cheese scone.
Home and fire on.
Very RTC chicken Kiev for tea with cauliflower broccoli and carrots.
May have dozed…so have just come to bed!6 -
Hello all. Been a while
Recent pleasures
1. I turned 60 and nothing terrible happened!! We went to Belfast - one of my favouritist cities. it was fab as ever (so it was), I'll be back (so i will).
2. lovely spending the time as the four of us. tho DS was a couple of days later than the rest of us cos of pesky work.
3. all ready for christmas. Yet again i am amazed that i've managed to do it.
4. Lovely treats for my birthday - a meal out with my friend, a cake delivered and a bottle of gin. So many other lovely things.
5. Finished 'The Crown' (thank goodness - the first few were good, it went off in the last couple). ALso watched 'Dark' (in German with english subtitles - it's good to hear the german spoken). And Vigil.
6. A quick trip to ICT for a book club meal and to check on the house.
7. marking nearly completed
8. a trip to the CBSO for a christmas concert - fab stuff.
Have a lovely christmas all if i don't make it back here beforehand.I wanna be in the room where it happens8 -
DigForVictory said:It occurs to me that we have some boeuf in the freezer. I must research pearl onions & see if Youngest can learn new tricks. He may jib at the red wine - this house runs on tea & “it’s just an ingredient” may not fly… Stroganoff might be easier but I think Both lads jib at mushrooms.I wanna be in the room where it happens6

A bit of a cheat these are for yesterday and today.
1 brother and sister-in-law arrived for the evening last night, there was food and drink and putting the world to rights.
2 A bit of an easy day, I am one of those people who needs recovery time after hosting / socialising.
3 An easy meal of pasta and a lot of veggies was tea. The problem with lentil pasta is it doesn’t leave us feeling full.
4 I fancied popping out to check for reductions and picked up a 60p whole duck reduced from £12, a £2 rather large chicken and some pieces all snaffled away in the freezer. Welcomed back from very brief shopping by a fuzzie as if I had been out for weeks.
5 I don’t plan on going out now for a few days, we’ll enjoy being cosy at home.

Happy Christmas to all when it arrives. I had a super day with mum, and both Luton and Leicester won.
1) we went to the garden centre - for our christmas presents she bought me a beautiful mature skimmia in a pot, potted up with snowdrops under - weighs a ton! and i bought her two planted up christmas pots, smaller and lighter, (she also bought some more plants, our garden is shaping up nicely)
2) and i bought lunch - cup of soup and a toasted turkey panini and we worked out the bus stop for when (if) she gets rid of the car - i recognise it'll be a wrench for her - home to unpack everything except the skimmia as too heavy for me
3) then mr t - no major bargains but we stuck to the list and got everything on it without too much pain
4) bangers and mash for supper - DD2 is strong - she got the skimmia out the boot in the back gate and it's now in pride of place on the patio
5) Radio Times crossword with mum, I found some lovely carols online and now she's to bed, the candles are lit, the fire on, the boys asleep and i'm watching a christmas midsommer murders - I need to stay up till midnight when I will walk the boys with DD2 who will be half way through her last night shift of the year. hooray!MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Good morning. Dark!!
Well, I think we're as sorted as we'll ever be. Enough food to last until Good Friday, gifts wrapped ready to distribute, sparkly top pressed.
I hope you all have the best Christmas possible, with people you love and fond memories of Christmasses past.
Happy Christmas Eve everyone. With love ❤7
