5 OS pleasures in your day today - part 3

This weeks to do list is looking daft so for today we did not a lot really.
1 Grilled bacon sarnie on toasted from the freezer bread, sounds daft but works well at keeping the diabetic levels good, to do with the food science of freezing and un freezing the bread…..
2 Finishing some birthday chocolate and reminding myself to get some “proper” handmade diabetic stuff for dh in to enjoy.
3 Ordered a few things really all were planned, run out and needed and mainly on offer with free delivery.
4 I’m watching The holiday, I count it as festive.

I hope none of you mind......
My brother gave the service at the funeral and recounted my Dad's beautiful (because he made it that way) amazing life. My Uncle spoke from his perspective, from his heart, at the wake. The love between the 4 siblings has been remarked upon many times. A closer knit family would be hard to find. Us cousins, their children often talk about their example, now part of my Dad's legacy. Growing up he told me many times that I had to look after my siblings because I am the oldest. It is what he did.
You think you know someone but sometimes familiarity blunts the edge of truly looking. Truly understanding the depth of a trait, quality, character. The last 6 months with my Dad took me down a particular path, that of sweetness. I have always known that my dad is kind, generous, gentle. Watching him meeting all the medical professionals, all these new people, seeing how open he was, welcoming, was stunning. He really was someone with a pure heart ready to make you his friend. I imagine him in a school yard going up to a new child and saying 'do you want to play ?'
Sweet, like honey and all it's other qualities. It's as close as I can come to describing what I saw. I cannot count the number of doctors, nurses, care professionals that came to me and told me how lovely my Dad is. One consultant in a telephone consultation told me that he tells his students about my Dad and his family. This was on a day that I was really struggling.
The everlasting pleasure was being given the gift of being able to really 'see' my Dad. And what a beautiful sight.

Good morning. Wind has dropped at last
Dig fv - I have found offspring let you deal with things, e.g. meter readers, for ages. But then, all of a sudden, they become useful, competent and start taking charge. ( Our burglary is a case in point. They had sorted almost everything in the two hours it took us to get home) Patience, my dear!
Frith - tile is a pain, but so glad younger son continues to make good progress.
S Sue - I think the problem with memorial type services is the almost tangible grief from so many people at once. Worse than a funeral in that most of the congregation are strangers to each other. I don't think I can face another. But perhaps that's selfish of me.
Bala - what a beautiful thoughtful post. Many hugs.
Alarm being fitted today and jewellery loss person to ring. Please don't be burgled. You will lose hours of your life in admin and phone calls.
Happy Monday everyone

A life well-lived, Bala, and a fitting tribute that enables those left behind to move on into their future.
Pleasures yesterday...
After the journey through Hell and back on Saturday (going to work, avoiding big lumps of tree in the road on the way there, and fighting a blizzard on the way back) I awoke yesterday morning knowing I had four days off.
Taking dog out for early walk in the snow-covered park and playing field. The sun had risen and cast a golden light over the snow,
Dog's pleasure in finding all the sticks on the ground after the high winds.
Real coffee made in the coffee machine whilst catching up on emails.
Roast beef and Yorkshire pud lunch with apple and pear crumble and custard for afters. A glass of Merlot was consumed and we watched old episodes of Father Ted, delightfully silly.
Sainsburys delivery including some bits for Christmas stocking filler gifts. The Christmas plans progress steadily, there will be no mad panicking at Chateau Nargle.
Hearing daughter had a negative PCR test (she had been having symptoms but not the main ones) so can arrange to go and see her this coming Sunday - got to get the value from my Railcard!
Spoke to stepdaughter in law - they are having Christmas at her mum's as mum had a nasty stroke earlier this year. She is at home now but needs full time care, which is done by a social care person along with her three daughters each taking a week in turn. Plans are now made for them to come to me the second weekend in January for a belated Christmas and New Year celebration. It's tough juggling three people's work schedules, particularly in December when the calendar fills up with events.
Watched Strictly on catch up TV, then the results show later.
Early to bed and read a little of Nigel Slaters Christmas Chronicles. I am strongly tempted to have a go making my own stollen. Better lie down and wait for the urge to pass. One life - your life - live it!13 -
Good to hear that your BIL is improving DD and how wonderful that out of something so worrying something positive has occurred.
Epic post as always DFV.
What a wonderful legacy to have of your Dad Bala.
For yesterday,
Up early but very cold and small dog showed no inclination to go for a walk so cuddles on the sofa it was.
Bacon butties and catching up on all things Ambridge.
We did then get wrapped up and all went for a walk around the fields, no-one else around but several pheasants were sent up much to small dog’s delight.
Home and beef pie for lunch followed by much lazing around, reading books and chatting.
Had a few games of Yahtzee, thoroughly whooped by Capt S who managed a Yahtzee in every game, even the jokey threat of making him sleep in the shed didn’t stop them coming 😆

The tree is up and the final flashing yule lights are up and running. Kitty has not demolished the tree either! Shee does like her podium and pouffe!
Had the salmon wellington yesterday for dinner. was purchased from the Discount Surplus Store! Very good and recommended. The Albatross checked out the deal with the w8r5, and at cost of about £5.70 kg compared to three times as much, there is no comparison! We did one of their named dishes to find it just juice and bits of off cut fish! To date in the last three months, we have saved over £300, at 50% more by not shopping there anymore! Our other Discount Surplus Store opens this Thursday! Recommend. Aldi Prawn and White Wine Salmon Wellington! Served with crushed tatties and fresh garden pies!
Last night watched for Al Murray on things and then another episode of John Adams. Fiery waters were taken and cheeses offered!
Kept the Land Speed Record this morning as I took the Albatross to her work, the off to the discount surplus store for provisions. Got the gammon joint in for yule and some treats for Kitty! Got prawns in for dinner, sweet and sour prawns with sliced peppers and mushrooms! Served with rice this week as we has enough of the poodles for a while!
Went to the tip! Dumped the garden waste into the convertor for the composting beastie!
Now all mugged up with me tea and a KitKat! Other biscuits are not the same! When I did my apprenticeship, we had the three fingered versions! Hopes that gets through the AI censors!
Jen sends her Buzz!
Keep Safe!I work from home so my cat can be fed on demand!13 -
