  • Sunday pleasures

    1. A smattering of snow, made everything look pretty but didn't linger enough to be annoying.
    2. Copious amounts of tea and digestives accompanied my study session, didn't understand it at all. Fresh eyes me thinks
    3. Scrummy rtc pork joint slowcooked all day made a lovely dinner for all the family.
    4. A nice warm bath, clean jammies and my bed, very grateful indeed for these simple pleasures. My heart hurts to think of those on the streets this time of year.
    5. Bills and finances organised for December and January, meal planned till 12th Jan and online delivery booked for 24rd December.

  • 1 Waking up to DH all excited at a smattering of snow early.
2 Grilled bacon on a Sunday
3 An impromptu fridge all out cleaned and back in, as the pineapple in there leaked all over everywhere.
4 Birds all over the feeder glad we can help, as I was watching them it started to snow again.
5 Cleaned up and changed the ferret bedding
    6 Wrote the Christmas cards.
7 Made a healthy dinner which was lovely, however I will admit there was cheesecake for dessert.

So sorry to read you’re news vjsmum sounds very similar to gbf’s cp who died last November.
    Been a busy weekend
    1) Friday night was book club, me hosting, the snowman (nesbo not Briggs) did snowman theme to food including 2 Bries with smaller cheese rounds with eyes, nose, hat and buttons (inspiration Andy ingredients from lidl)
    2) great chat about book then someone went into kitchen to get another bottle and discovered a haggis copycat- briegate rather than mincepiegate. So fortunately no trip to vet but no Brie. Amazingly the ‘heads’ were still safely on the board
    3) Saturday morning parkrun. A few snowflakes. Ground definitely firm. 3secs outside personal best. Brrrr it was cold
    4) friend round for supper. Mrpiano cooked
    5) church this morning someone gave me a spare ticket for Dundee choral as friend has flu so unable to go - sad for him but glad I could make use of the ticket
    6) lunch at home with 2 friends - mrpiano cooked. Then we walked the dogs
    7) uni Christmas carol service was lovely. Had a chat to the principal. Last night he slept in a park in Edinburgh as part of a raising awareness for the homeless. Went down to minus 7 brrrrrr. Then off to above mentioned choral.
    6)

    Pleasures for today:

    1) A lie in.

    2) The snow was sort of a pleasure. 10cm was left from Friday. It did look nice and clean again today. But now it is so deep that just the handle bars of bigger son's motorbike can be seen in the garden and it is half way up next door's (6 foot) gate... It is 30cm everywhere but over my knee where it has drifted. And it is still snowing and is forecast to carry on until 6am...

    3) Managed to get down and feed the hens (took about an hour!) Got them out of the sleeping quarters and put them underneath (dry patch - it's on legs of about 80cm) and moved the food and water under there and their saucepan of porridge. Thought they would get used to the snow or go back in the sleeping quarters. Went down at 3pm and they hadn't moved! So I picked them back up and popped them back in their pen and put the food and water in there - they looked very pleased!

    4) Tasty food of part baked rolls for lunch and sausage casserole for tea.

    5) Smaller son and I went sledging and knocking snow off the tree branches before they snapped off.

    6) Bigger son was very silly and went into town last night on his bike. Refused to come home before the snow started. So he started back at about 1pm today, realised my messages and photos of very deep snow were in fact true and it took him over 3.5 hours to walk back, pushing his bike through snowdrifts. :-/

    7) Our old farm cat actually came into the porch (very rare) so I carried her into the house for a warm and stroked her to stop her shouting to be let out again! I just wanted her to warm through a bit. Let her out after 10 minutes.

    8) My school friend phoned.

    9) Both school and college shut tomorrow which is just as well as no cars have been able to get in or out of the village all day.

    10) Watched the final of I'm a Celebrity whilst eating lots of different cheeses. My brother was going to watch it but the power went off there 4 minutes in! He chainsawed 2 trees that had fallen across his lane but 1 has also gone on the main road. There were also 4 small fires in the trees down the valley where the high voltage lines have been shorted by trees weighed down and touching them. Western Power say it'll be fixed by 3am. We only had 3 power cuts all day.

So sorry to read your message vjsmum, think I missed it before. Hope you're looking after yourself.

    1. Yesterday: blitzed house (so tidy and sparkly), lit scented candles, prepped for my end of year review, drank wine, played Scrabble, watched Harry Potter. We have a 4X4 but used it as a perfect excuse not to go anywhere.
    2. My boss is stranded (she lives on a farm in a village which is a bit hard to get to, but suspect she just wants to play in snow on her horses!) so have cancelled meetings and can really get my head down today.
    3. No soya milk in work kitchen this morning so instead of my usual cereal/porridge I walked to the cafe and got an avocado and tomato brown bap and a banana. Yum. Am now sipping spiced orange tea.
    4. This is the first Christmas in years that DH hasn't been depressed. He's always made an effort to be fun and happy for us, so it's never been terrible, but this year he is bouncing around the place, begging me to let him keep the xmas tree lights on all day so we can see them as we pull up to the house, playing Christmas tunes and dancing around. It's lovely!!
    5. Watching DD making a snowman outside in the garden yesterday :)

    Weekend pleasures,

Another thanks here for thermal underclothing, minus 5 taking Lulu out to her field saturday morning, ice broken on water bucket.

Filled up the bird feeders and table, even the partridges came in the garden to snaffle the leftovers on the floor.

Saturday tea of venison burgers with mulled cider.

Hollow legged ones sent their Dad a link, they had made an article in a daily paper about young people out carousing in the North East. Dressed in their Christmas jumpers they looked jolly and not at all a threat to society!

Quiet stillness of a snowy morning, added pleasure of my mini making it down the track to the yard!

Decided to still put Lulu out, she was rugged up and cosy. She sniffed the snow a few times and
then kicked up her heels to prance around her field, snow pony.

Home and walking into a warm house that smelt of coffee and bacon.

An early festive treat to myself, Nigel Slaters Christmas Chronicles, heartily recommend especially if you like the disheveled one as much as I do :D

Sneaky afternoon nap on the sofa.

Being thankful for my warm home and loved ones.

    What is OS pleasure?
Is actually meant to be OSI Oh Sod It!

5 Got the wheels of BoP to the mill this morning and we got the head of steam rising very quickly. That’s what happens when you get a decent shovel in the boiler room. On the way in, the cars were less as the non snow drivers have decided not to go in today.

4 With that at emporium w8rs last day, because of the snow, it was empty! That meant that not only did I get the mega savings, but the aisles were clear of zombionic punters who shuffle from muppet food to muppet food! I also invested in treats for Raffles, he seems to enjoy them! I also got some xmas chocolates, as I am married and knows what my gal likes!

3 Last night watched a Fonda film, one with Bob inn it, Barefoot in the Park. Wobbleade was consumed!

2 Night for tea will be another chicken curry. This will be rather hot! Will again be served with egg and prawn fried rice! I know you want the reciope and you will see no Benny! Benny was inn crossroads, not foods!

Two whole eggs whisked and scrambled inn a pan.
Long grain rice, boiled and washed in boiling water. That basmati carp is 90% Long Grain but cost more!
Inn separate pan, some onion, prawns, shredded mushrooms, peppers and anything else, into hot pan. Add drained rice and a bit of soy sauce. Whisk up fast and add eggs! Sorted, more fun and not as carp as benny!

Tum shall be vigorously rubbed later!

End of today’s antics from BoP!

Hello all, levels of concentration are low so it's good to think of some pleasures

    1. Our lunch date was snowed off, I said I was willing to still go but was feeling fragile. However the weather made the decision for us
    2. Had a bath watching Effie Gray, a nice gentle film and a story I didn't know
    3. Put the tree up. This was not going to happen on Saturday but I am glad I've done it now
    4. Watched another film and then two episodes of The Crown from the beginning. It is probably not a good thing that I now know how to use Netflix
    5. OH cooked lamb shanks 'sous vide' in the slow cooker. Delicious..

Have a nice day all. More pottering for me
I wanna be in the room where it happens

Continued hugs Vjsmum just do what you can do.

    Pleasures for today.

Dog walk with son. Stunning views over to Arran.

Went into town. To register at GP, dentist, pick up provisional drivers license forms, sort out phone contracts...felt very productive...and even bought a kitchen bin!

    Soup for late lunch.

Nice dog walk ...just not a nice dog! Rascal! I'd dropped his halti collar in vets carpark ( after a phone call this afternoon confirmed) so shall pick that up tomorrow . He was pulling and being rude to other dogs. However ,countryside was stunning!

Wrote some Christmas cards. Helped DD1 wrap some gifts, I love wrapping!
