Decided to turn my weekend purchase of 29p cauliflower into cauliflower cheese soup, a bbcgoodfood recipe. Well it was bland, very bland even after the addition of bacon to garnish. Do not try at home. :(

Of course now have this for the next few days -although given the whole pot came to less than £2 I may ditch at some point. As one of you said previously - CFO we only have ourselves to blame!

The worst of it was I came back this afternoon and the whole house smelt cabbagy - well, I suppose cauliflowery really:( Not pleasant.

Then my neighbour came to the door, so I started apologising profusely for the smell and maybe protested a little too much that it was simply a soup not me or my housekeeping ability or lack thereof - although the state of my hall sort of went against any idea I might actually have any housekeeping capability since there were unemptied bags, muddy boots and drying washing in full view. And it had to be the neighbour who is part of a young couple, loads of money, fully renovated and modernised house ...:(:(:(
If I didn't already feel I was the sad old cow of the street I think I have just confirmed it:eek:

Nowt wrong with being so :)...we are disconcerting to the masses (of couples) and they wonder what they are missing :D

  • oh poppystar, that did make me laugh. Haven`t we all been caught out like that. I remember someone coming when I was experimenting with dehydrating cauliflower, I have never had a stink like it, even worse than when I fried mackerel. The whole house and beyond stank, vile smell

poppystar - I prefer not to remember the time I made carmelised onion chutney stunk the whole street out.:o As for the soup add some paprika, nutmeg and mustard (if you have them in)and that should "de-bland" it :)

Thanks for that - you caught me just as I was serious considering putting the remainder down the sink rather than in containers in the fridge. No mustard but will try paprika and nutmeg (never ever used those together before) and give it a last chance tomorrow.

Cauliflower has gone from my favourite veg to enemy in one day :D

Had the lo potato and onion layers for dinner tonight, was so tired and head aching tickle throat, after being at work, k today. I had muller corner mixed berries with the last of the raspberries thrown in and a handful of blueberries.
Got stuck in to the bag of Thornton liquorice again, thought it might ease the tickle in my throat.:D
Lunch was a beef and onion roll , followed by raspberry rice, and afternoon break was 2 clementine s.
My sister is taking me to the supermarket to get Xmas veg tomorrow. I need sprouts cauliflower and carrots and parsnips. I'll pick up a couple of cartons of cream too.

Poppystar - I sympathise re the cauli soup, I made some a few weeks back and when my nephew called later I had to promise him I had nt farted! !! Luckily he's only 11 and he thought it hilarious! !! I put a parmesan rind in mine so it was very tasty!!

If you have no mustard and think it needs something else try a wee bit of balsamic vinegar or lemon juice :D. It also like a lot of things might well taste better tomorrow

Here I am at stupid o'clock scouring t'internet for likely cause of my dishwasher dying mid cycle last night. Bummer, and of course as with most water related white goods, they always die with a full load of water in them, so you just know the kitchen floor is going to have a blooming good drowning.:mad:

And my one had a sardine tin in the wash load, I reckon I will be able to give Poppy a run for stinkyness, a fishy pong from the soon to be stagnant water:eek:

If I were fitter / bendier these days it would not be a problem, I know I could fix it, not sure if fit & able enough, poo:(

I think I will be out buying chuck away tin foil roasting trays etc, of course I can wash plates / cutlery no problem, but just do not fancy returning to soaking roasting dishes overnight when a splash of money can remove that task

    Very first world whinge, sorry

I think I may console myself with beans on toast for breakfast, and s0d the washing up

Oh no :(. I hope that you can get it sorted out quickly.
  • oh farway, first world maybe but not an easy job, to just empty that layer of water at the bottom, even with a saucer when it gets too shallow for a cup. Maybe take the rest of the water out via dry t towels to soak up like a wick, they at least can go into the wm. You should be able to hold one end and just drape into the dw pond at the bottom, without bending too much
