EDIT; Mea culpa today - as I spelt edamame wrongly up thread. Whoops!
I'm pleased you mentioned it, as I can now post! The English tutor of Japanese people in me would not have allowed me to have spelled edamame incorrectly.
However, to have spelled it correctly would have made me look like a smug-know-all.
I am a smug-know-all, at times, I know I am, but try not to be.
So yeah, anyway, I'm sure I bought some frozen soy beans in Heron, once, tasteless things. I've had edamame salad from Aldi, that was nice, but it was really the lovely dressing that made it so.
My Japanese clients seem to like them very much. I've been given a couple of recipes.
If you go into a Japanese izakaya, (pub), they are the first thing to order, as they don't take long to prepare. They are also served as an otoshi, a compulsory nibble that takes the place of a service charge or tip on your bar bill.
I bet you really wanted to know that. :rotfl:Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
I'm having a gluten free chicken pie with my potatoes and onion layers, cooked in stock.
There's not much filling in the pies, but it s the nearest I get to a butter pie, from my remembered youth!
Had a mince pie and cream after lunch.
I forgot after dinner last night had a meringue nest with kiwi, raspberries and blueberries, topped with the last of the ice cream and a drizzle of baileys, had a glass of baileys too. Been rude not to as I'd got the bottle out.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0 -
A bit of using up was done yesterday = the last of the salami, the grapes that were almost ready for the food recycle bin, the l/o boiled rice, last of the turkey kebab in the freezer and a couple of soft tomatoes. I had a sort of meze type lunch then a stuffed a red pepper with the rice, kebab and tomatoes for tea.
Today I really only needed to get greaseproof paper but ended up coming home with everything else I need for Christmas dinner
I'm down to 4 slices of bread in the freezer so will pick up a loaf later in the week when I go to get salad stuff and a tipple for Christmas day - I'm thinking a Manzanilla sherry with my starter and main, a port with my cheese board and Advocaat for later with my mince pies/Christmas cake
Tonight I'm having the other aubergine I bought last week, my Melanzane Parmigiana is ready to go in the oven and I'll have some green beans and a couple of garlic bread slices to mop up the sauce.Jan - June Grocery spends = £531.61

....as two of my little "interests" are learning new words and learning about new foods then...yep....I want to make sure I "get things right":)
Food today was lunch of yet more leftover salad from Friday's do and a bit of that posh French cheese with it.
I've spent the day trying to "think positive" and working out how I want my garden to be at some point. The "thinking positive" being I'm trying not to think how much things like granite, sandstone and huge ready-grown plants/trees cost:rotfl:and just figuring out what I actually want.
Then I got onto thinking "...and part of 'thinking positive' means not wasting any money on absolutely nowt" took me onto dealing with my bank and Internet provider to ensure my dealings with them are as good as they can be - and so I was cba for evening meal. Have just had toast with nut butter, an orange and some milk to drink - and thought "Well it'll have to do - as I guess it should cover all nutritional bases pretty much". I don't somehow think about £10 per month saved on average to my Internet provider and getting a few quid back from my bank as "reward" for my occasional credit card use will take me very far - but gotta start somewheres...
I am going to chuck the rest of that salad out though! Loads of it left still - and I guess I'd better just make mental note about not making double quantity of it next time:cool:
Oh well - and also planning another meal out with friend here in the New Year and fingers crossed we're more successful as to where we pick next time - as we're struggling so much to find anywhere much we like to eat out here.0 -
Ooops on the "Storks" which shows I do not see, watch or notice any adverts. I skip through all ads on TV, and of course have a ad blockers on my web browser
Onward & upwards. The chilli defrosted and was nuked for dinner, followed by last of the opened box of mince pies, or in Lild speak should that be mice pies? With Greek yoghurt as per usual
Thinking more about the not a Christmas dinner this weekend, and maybe roasting all the veg, including the sprouts.
I have roasted veg before but not sprouts, there are sprout roasting methods on the net, so it can be done, but snails can also be eaten, just not by me
Mozzie cheeses, bought as YS and frozen are in fridge defrosting for tomorrow's roast tomato thingy. That will be a use up of my wrinkly tomatoes and jar of pesto ages oldEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
Just half-watching poncy Jamie's Best Ever Christmas - he spent more money making his gravy than I'll be spending on my whole dinner.
There's nothing the 99% like more than to have our noses rubbed in how the 1% live at Christmas0 -
I have been really hungry today, and seem to have eaten quite a lot.
Breakfast was porridge followed by toast and jam.
For lunch, as I was really hungry, I decided to use up the last of the open tin of tuna in a tuna mayo sandwich, and the last of the cheddar cheese in a cheese and pickle sandwich.
For dinner I had a lamb rump steak with chips, mushrooms, tomatoes and peas.
One mince pie was a mid morning snack and pud this evening has been two slices of stollen with custard. At this rate I can see me going back for the last lonely looking mince pie later this evening.

Good evening everyone,
I had a lovely lunch with my friends earlier and a good catch up it was nice to get out for a bit. I'm still feeling full after a much larger lunch than I'm used to so doubt I'll eat anything else today unless the munchies strike:D.
My son is busy [STRIKE]swearing[/STRIKE] enjoying himself putting up the Christmas tree, I'm staying well out of the way....;)0
