....the last of the cheddar cheese in a cheese and pickle sandwich.
    ...
That was my plan earlier, just before the cheese/tomato sandwich (made with wrinkly cherry tomatoes, only 4 more to go) ... but the fridge contained no chutney at all; I'd forgotten I'd used the last of it 2-3 weeks ago. It's on the list. I think there are some "festive" ones from the big "B" brand.... I'll check out if they exist, how much for ... and I might treat myself ... or might wimp out at the price stage and buy a supermarket's own brand as usual :)

Brekkie was toast and nut butter and jam - bread past its best but teeth survived!

Lunch out :j Turkey, loads of veg, bit too much bacon. Sticky toffee pudding and creme anglais followed:D

Evening a bit stuffed so just a banana/egg 'pancake'. Doubtless there will be room for a tiffin square later - this week's treat from M@S, tiny squares of christmas joy:)

Lots of nice food and probably hit my 5 a day (almost:o)
  • I am getting a very expensive organic turkey crown delivered to me on friday and only yesterday cottoned on to how much turkey meat there will be for one to chomp. I don`t particularly like defrosted cooked turkey, so went into a mini panic. Not now, I have decided to turn it into cutlets which I can eat like chicken breast or flatten by banging with a soup ladle. Yes I fancy the latter but can decide when I come to eat it. So I will divide and conquer, lots of fillets and stock made from the breast bone and soup with the bits, then frozen as single portions

I added to my online organic fresh box order this week, it was down to bare minimum. Spelt bread, yes I could make it but won`t and doubled the eggs to a dozen. I want the bread to make dried breadcrumbs, exactly like my mother made and I used to make. Sliced and in a cool oven then minced. Yummy flat escalopes of turkey dipped in flour then beaten egg and then breadcrumbs. I can do similar but not flattened, with fish and that is festive enough for me, I am having christmas day with a dd. I cancelled the 12 wrapped pigs in blankets, goodness me I have ample sausages and bacon here

I have more goodies coming tomorrow, bettys of harrowgate, treats for me. Organic stuff on thursday and my meat order on friday, including a lush fillet steak and a couple of pork steaks and smoked salmon. I will have overload but don`t want excessive overload and have managed not to touch my bag of 6 packets of crisps and my cadburys fingers and maltesers and the gin

Today then is relatively minor, oatmeal with added chopped apricot and few blackcurrants is cooking now. Lunch has to be pizza, I have a red pepper, frozen small tomatoes and frozen mozarella, all crying out to be used. A bit of anchovy will give it an oomph. Last meal, a finely shredded cabbage stir fry with ginger and a few cashews. When I have excess veg I always turn to a little book called green cuisine by Anna Ross, mine was printed in 1999

    Good morning everyone,
Sounds sensible kittie to butcher the turkey in portions you prefer- too expensive to not get the best for you out of it. We collect ours on Saturday and it will be getting portioned and rolled. The breasts, winglets and one leg will be getting cooked and the other leg portioned and frozen so I can use as I wish in the New Year. Yes there will probably be cooked meat left after Boxing Day but with the kids home it will get used.
I got nice news last night that elder son is here until the 4th not the 2nd as I thought.:)

I'm off to the opticians in a bit for some tests to see how my "wobbly" eye is impacting on my "good eye", I don't like getting these but important to get done so I don't end up with sight loss to add to my woes:cool:.

Tonight I'm back to CFO as my younger son is having to head back to Newcastle overnight. I've no idea what my meals will be yet:)
  • Oh I wish the weather would play fair for a change, the days that it has been dry and above freezing its a dead calm, the days we have a breeze its either snowing/raining or freezing - I dont have a tumble dryer and am getting SOOOOOOOOOOO fed up of wet washing hanging around  Today I thought its going to be dry temp up to about 8 degrees so I will wash my towels - they are currently hanging like the bells that were never rung :(

Anyway rant over, cfo today is still more of a use up - have some mushrooms going a bit....mawh, and the celery a bit bendy so will make a soup, have some for lunch and freeze any leftover.

Taken sausages out of the freezer to have with mashed potatoes and baked beans.

Kittie that is really good idea, I might do that myself as I can have more variety with raw turkey and there is always the danger that the cooked just disintegrates when putting it into a sauce for a curry or pie.

  • yes need2b, cooked turkey breast goes `powdery` and its texture and taste changes to unappealing, anyway it can only be kept up to a month. The price I paid for my crown, its going to stretch a long long way and for several months. The breadcrumbs are going to be key for me, mum used to get pork steaks and cut them into small portions, nine of us and very little money. She bashed them and did the breadcrumb process, was so very nice, makes meat and fish a bit special. I am going to make breadcrumbs from at least half the 400g loaf and I`ll make sure they are thoroughly dry, then keep in a vac jar ie it creates airtightness by pushing a button when I push the lid on. I can then just keep in a cupboard

Oh drat it is still very icy outside and no sun. I think I am procrastinating as there is only so much housework I need to do. Reading alternating with knitting perhaps. I already put a small hall heater on in my neighbours house, theirs is e-w and mine is s-n. Theirs is cooler and could well be like a fridge when they arrive home in 10 days

I was just looking at the home frozen green beans and wondering whether to compost them, so unappealing but having gone to the trouble of blanching and freezing, I`ll wait a while. My book has spicy green beans on p 45, I`ll try and do those tomorrow, it will use up 6 oz of the blighters and I have everything else in, except fresh coriander, which I dislike anyway.. I could cope with those and a small lamb burger and LO shredded cabbage. maybe I won`t wait until tomorrow, I`ll do them for my last meal, I`ll still get to use some cabbage up
  • Gosh that was quick, even if I say so myself. Pizza is assembled and will be getting to room temperature soon, I only put 2 chopped anchovies on top of the topping, just for piquancy. Beans are cooking in the spices and just 1 tbs of water, did them early so the flavour matures. I will be forgetting the lamb and will be adding fermented tofu. What now! sun is still very faint, got to do something engrossing, I am taking to myself enough as it is. Makes me so want to get on with the house buying, walking will be possible to get a daily paper and chat to people. No-one is about here
  • I've just been out to the greengrocer today. I bought some very lovely red apples, some lemons and some tomatoes. £3. They are much better quality than the supermarkets.

I've had a cherry yoghurt and one of the red apples and then some vegan Quorn nuggets in wholemeal buns for lunch.

I'm making a bean and rice bowl tonight with kidney beans, rice, tomatoes, peppers, red onions, salsa, grated vegan cheese and chopped spring onions on top. I will put lots of seasoning and then have leftovers for lunch tomorrow.

  • I've had a lot of tea too. I thought it was warmer out today, I felt chilled when I got home yesterday.

    Good afternoon everyone,
I survived the opticians and thankfully as there has been no further deterioation so I shouldn't need these tests repeated for a year:), the post-drops blurring has cleared but I have yellow eyes from the dye which is very odd looking:eek:.
My son has headed off though back tomorrow afternoon.
Lunch was a cheese salad sarnie and couple of lovely clementines, I've still no thoughts for this evening's meal.
