Sympathy on knackered dishwasher. The last time I lay on the floor to clean the filter on my washing machine I had to crawl out into the hallway and up the stairs to get upright.
My son did it a year later and the filter was pristine. The machine is a Bosch. Not been cleaned this year.

caronc I think it is you who always cooks their lamb shanks a day before you want to eat them so that it is easy to skim the fat off. I want to cook a lamb shank today in the slow cooker for tomorrow.

I'm not sure how is best to reheat it tomorrow. I was thinking of just nuking. Is this how you you do it?
  • I just took low cost unattractive, home processed veggies out of the freezer, not to be wasted as the compost will benefit. Green beans and part roasted carrots, cleared a nice space but will have to do a freezer tidy later, ready for friday. I didn`t realise I had so many. I also took out 2 cooked turkey sausages, ratatouille and a small stewed apple for lunch. I wish I had a bigger appetite really but am listening to my body or I will turn into a ball

I am just about to remove a frozen prepared saute of shallots etc as a base for a soup, I have LO red pepper and lots of small frozen tomatoes, that will have to be my last meal, taken early in case the pepper sparks indigestion, although it didn`t on my pizza

I am definitely not growing tomatoes next year, got overload in my freezer, taking up space. Also just 3 green beans, 6 gave me lovely fresh beans all summer long but again I had overload. I have to be selective

Poppystar - I sympathise re the cauli soup, I made some a few weeks back and when my nephew called later I had to promise him I had nt farted! !! Luckily he's only 11 and he thought it hilarious! !! I put a parmesan rind in mine so it was very tasty!!

Seconded re putting parmesan rinds in soup - definitely adds a certain something imo.

Sitting here laughing and thinking "Well...I think the worst smell anyone has inadvertently been subjected to is burnt toast (and a kitchen with cloudy air) - though that has happened noticeably often".

Here I am at stupid o'clock scouring t'internet for likely cause of my dishwasher dying mid cycle last night. Bummer, and of course as with most water related white goods, they always die with a full load of water in them, so you just know the kitchen floor is going to have a blooming good drowning.:mad:

And my one had a sardine tin in the wash load, I reckon I will be able to give Poppy a run for stinkyness, a fishy pong from the soon to be stagnant water:eek:

If I were fitter / bendier these days it would not be a problem, I know I could fix it, not sure if fit & able enough, poo:(

I think I will be out buying chuck away tin foil roasting trays etc, of course I can wash plates / cutlery no problem, but just do not fancy returning to soaking roasting dishes overnight when a splash of money can remove that task

    Very first world whinge, sorry

I think I may console myself with beans on toast for breakfast, and s0d the washing up
Oh no  hope it's something simple

Yes that's me, I don't tend to nuke them usually heat slowly in a pan or pop back in the slow cooker for a couple of hours with the gravy I've made from the juices:)

I know my role in the street is of eccentric (I ride an adult’s trike), ageing (60 next May) biddy. Every street should have one.

I always wanted to be an eccentric old woman but I wanted it to be for doing exciting things rather than being strange (or smelly:eek:) and living in a tip.:o

Health issues put pay to that dream and instead of travelling the world or joining a circus I'm simply struggling with the day to day in my dotage:(

I rather like the idea of the adult trike though - that is nicely eccentric:)
  • I am so not wasting my lovely half a sweet cabbage. I will be shredding it all and putting it into my soup plus the half a red pepper and that will be very close to the cabbage soup that was all the rage in the 90s. I`ll dip into it when I feel a snack urge over the next couple of days. I found another good portion of dahl in the freezer, removed it and that will be my last meal with some rice, it has to be one of the most comforting foods in a bowl

Plus I am getting out on my cycle as soon as bettys arrives, going to be a filthy ride but fresh air calls
  • doh the ground is soaking, sos cycling will be off. My neighbours house is freezing even though the 80w hall heater was on for 24 hours, they should have left more heating options but so be it

I cannot face the ratatouille now I have prepared the cabbage soup. Ratat is now in the compost bowl, which is very full and will have to be put into hotbin later. I am though enjoying a small slice of toasted wheat grain bread with one slice of jarlsberg on top. Freezer sorting will be done today for sure, maybe I will also put the frozen cooked beetroots into the compost and resolve to not grow so many next year. At least my compost is feeding everything on the allotment, not wasted and the hotbin makes a good 3 loads a year

Thanks for D/w thoughts, I have made a start on getting the water out, the soak towels idea is good one I'll try that once I have lowered the level a bit more

It was beans on toast for breakfast, plus it is foggy outside, those two just seem to pair very well

I could have gone into town for chuck away trays, but tomorrow will be better, I want to crack on with DW water removal. I could cheekily ring the dockyard & ask if I could borrow one of the Queen Elizabeth's water pumps:)

Lunch, unknown, possibly old standby of cheese salady sarnie

And go really eccentric, basket on the handle bars, with a dog in it.
There is a chap round here has that, his is a rear pannier basket, not a trike though. He has fitted the dog with goggles, stops the flies etc going in it's eyes, I suppose you could also add a flying helmet as a spot of one upmanship

  • Todays meals look likely to be:

leftover soya "mince"/tomatoes/etc sauce with nice bread at lunchtime

Got a recipe off the net for cauliflower roast I think I shall try for dinner tonight.

Back to the "paperwork". I wish typing/typesetting errors were all that ever got done wrong. Just asked one firm to re-do an email to me - as the email made it look as if they'd agreed lesser service with me than they actually had agreed (ie my internet provider). Now just sent one back to my pension provider saying "You know you said 2017 at every point you made in your email - do you mean 2018?" or words to that effect.

Next up my fuel provider to "change tariff" to wotever-they're-gonna-call-it for the next year until the next email from them saying "Time to change your tariff now".

Thank goodness the insurance cover doesnt fall at this time of year - the annual phonecall to them going "That rise you've just told me I'll have is higher than inflation" and they then "Go off and find a cheaper one:cool::cool:".

Three firms to sort at the same time and two of them not "getting it right first time" is more than enough to sort out at once.

Does wonder how anyone with dementia or wotever is supposed to handle these things for the best for themselves.....so thank goodness I've not got that - whew!
