I would be tempted to use the yogurt euronorris.

Please can you put me down for £360 for the 4 weeks 4th to 31st August. We are away for 3 nights in a hotel and 5 nights camping. Food bought to take with us will be included but meals and food bought while away will come out of the holiday budget.

I did go over last month but I am almost getting to the point where I have a realistic budget that is comfortable and achievable. Our weekly shopping bill is fine it is the spends at work and takeaways that are too high. A little more work and I will be there. :)

Our budget includes meals for 2 adults and 1 child who is fed at childcare most days, takeaways, money spent on food at work, cleaning, laundry/shoe care and dog food and treats for a small doggle. Alcohol is budgeted separately.
    Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
    Pay off £7000 - £1743 - 19.4%
    Make £2021 extra income - £99.75

I'd like to join for August if I may? I've already done the shopping for week 1 so we'll draw a line under that. For the rest of the month (4 more weeks) I have a budget of £50 a week. The cupboards and fridge are full so I'm hoping to be under. Put me down for £200 please Zippy and many thanks to you and Coxy for the thread :)
  • Evening All. First shop of August done and I spent £63.10/£200. This was a large stock up shop done in two trollies to have roughly £30 worth in each trolley - to use up 2 x £5 off a £30 spend at Lidl. So took advantage of that plus current specials they had. We went over budget but I was happy with what we got.

Lots of meat now in the freezer and dinners will be planned around what we have in. I am hoping that what we bought today will form the basis for dinners for the next 3 weeks. Will see how it goes.

    Morning all.

Have placed an order with muscle food as they had a special on. So £34.03 spent, taking us to £176.02/£300. I think we'll actually have more food than needed now!

Anyway. Am making mini cheese and tomato quiches for daughter. Recipe calls for cream. Have none. What can I substitute with? I have no fat yoghurt or Philadelphia (used for another of daughter's recipes, but have plenty). Do you think either of those would do?

    Cheers.

You've prob made them by now but I'm sure a wee splash of milk would work.

Hi, can I be put down for £200? It's for a family of three, all food, alcohol, toiletries and cleaning products. It's a 5 week month for us, so it's a bigger budget than we usually go for.

I've just trawled through my bank statements for July and I spent £498.89 in supermarkets this month. That did include extras such as books, magazines and some pans, but even so I think you'll agree that that's way over the top for one woman and her cat, and it's those extras-that-add-up that I want to put a stop to.

 I think we all get a bit carried away sometimes, don't we? Mind you, those "extras-that-add-up" are killers to a budget! :D

    Seconded.

Week 1 spends yesterday: £8.30 in the market and £26.21 in Sainsbobs where I used a £3 moc plus a voucher for £4.93 (loose change that went in the Coin* machine). The £7.93 savings have gone into my holiday pot. Freezer absolutely chocker :p , fridge full but (on the plus side) store cupboards slowly emptying. :D

I have, and I used the yoghurt as the recipe already used milk. They came out great, and both DH and DD loved them.

DD also loved the fish cakes I made last night, so another win there. Hubby and I had fishcakes also. They'll never be my favourite, but they make a nice change :)

I'm in again for £250 that's for two people, three meals a day, cleaning, alcohol, medicines and anything else that can be bought in a supermarket.

Started my month on Thursday and a lot of the budget is gone already!

    Hello all,

I can't believe that we are already onto August's grocery challenge! It's going to be Christmas before we know it!

Can I put down a budget of £110 for the month please? This is a bit of a small budget for me but I have had a lot of expenses recently ( mainly on holidays) so I really need to try to make some savings.

I did my first shop today, and was very impressed that I managed to spend £17.76 instead of my usual £40+, but I now have a bit of a difficult decision to make: While cleaning the house tonight, I found a voucher for £5 off a £30 shop, but it needs to be used up tomorrow! I'm tempted to use it, but I'd need to plan very carefully because it would be a huge chunk out of my budget before I even get into August!

Thanks so much to the organisers of this thread - I find it really useful.

I use soft cheese when I make a quiche for DD and it always turns out fine :)
