since my last post we have relocated to the big smoke for me to work this week. Staying with hubby's family which is awesome and like being at home, but with less work.
Two NSDs have occurred and a bit of Tilly tidying Becuase my financial life was boring. The mortgage offset pots have taken a real hammering due to the work at home and I've got very little overtime at the moment. Expenses will be quite high at the end of Feb, but nothing like what I've paid out. I may need a complete plan re think, or I may just have to readjust my categories. Urgh why isn't life simple?
Should be a reasonably cheap week though due to working so much.

Quick check in to say nsd, but accounts reconciled and some skimming of pots done. Horrendous journey to the seaside for work today. Every train ran late. Just waiting for an update from the decorator in progress at home (both rooms need a full replanted booooo, more money!)
Commuting in the big smoke tomorrow. I'm tired already so going to bed.
    Goodnight all

Another nsd (any spends are expenses spends) and not even any Tilly tidies to be made. Another long day tomorrow. So time for bed. Night all.

back from my work trip and a weekend away with family friends. I've added 4days to the nsd total and a little not to the mop pot. Monthly spending budgets are holding up well, thank goodness, Becuase I am hemoraging from savings £1950 spent on house stuff this month already and what have I got to show for it? Pretty much nothing. The decorator last week discovered a few floorboards that do actually need replacing (hubby on it, getting the stuff today to fix tomorrow while Pickle Is at the Childminder's and I'm buying curtain fabric for our bedroom (and potentially the living room and dining room too) also, the damp proofing has failed, so we've got that to get fixed too. I do not want to add up what we've spent on the house in the last few months. I think I need a lottery win.

Home (again) and staying here for a week. We've been to my childhood home town for a family birthday party. Eating out budget blown as usual - I really must up this rather than keeping shuffling money around!
No NSDs (due to the above) but some Tilly tidying.
£70 left in the grocery budget for the month, which I'm hoping is about double what I 'need' for this week given the shopping list I've just written for a trip to Ald1 first thing tomorrow.

Capital spends on the house up to £2264 thanks to the curtain fabric purchasing - it was expensive as a whole, but the fabric itself was a reasonable price per meter, I will make them myself, I've taken the eyelets off the old curtains to reuse and we are keeping one set from the previous theme as they will work and I really like them. So, actually, it could have been a lot worse.

The plasterer is booked in for the last two weeks in March - so after the february payday, I already have enough money to pay this, but the extra coming in will help me feel better.

Once all of this work is paid for, I am going to have to reassess my goals, there is no way I can achieve mortgage neutrality by July 2020 now. So I really need to have a think about where I want to be at the end of the fixed rate.

This week I am at home but working all three working days, so I need to be efficient in my non working time.

    Have a lovely week everyone.

Just popping in to say sorry to hear about the house woes, and that while I appreciate it's a bit of a budgetary set back, you're doing really well. And if eating out with family is your treat, I think it's totally deserved :) x

Thank you LadyMay, I'm so grateful for this forum and Ynab for keeping me on track financially, I've spent over 20% of my annual salary (basic not overtime) this month alone. But, Becuase I do save, it's been fine, a friend said how a £300 bill for blocked drains caused her sleepless nights, I can see why, but that's what an emergency fund is for.

I tried to give Pickle quite a chilled day today, he's very tired from being away so much, so needed some downtime. This morning I did an Aldi shop - £27 total, split between household and groceries, so £50 left in the groceries budget at the moment to hopefully redistribute come the 28th.
I did by twice yearly sweep on the front but of the house, makes the house look so much better and more welcoming, washed masses of washing and took a trip out to two garden centres, less than £30 spent and the planters at the front look lovely and vibrant again now.
Tomorrow is a work day, but probably not a nsd, hubby wants to knock the fireplaces out, so I'm going to escape to a coffee shop to work, need to find my headphones so I don't get disturbed.

Wages have posted and so have expenses so I've managed to YNAB it all. I need my notebook to do the end of the month calculations, but I know I'm about £1500 down on where I was last month. March isn't going to be any better, damp proof work, plastering, fireplace work. Then April will probably be decorating and carpets. Maybe by the summer I'll be savin again. I do want to keep up my mortgage overpayments during this time and I should have some 'underspends' on the everyday categories to add on Thursday. I have met another mop pot mini target though so I'll send that over to the account when I'm done here. Praying for lots of overtime/supply work in March to help me through. Should get the council tax amount as well so hopefully there is a bit of surplus in that pot to suppprt the renovation funding

So, here's my monthly round up.

    Groceries £120.23/£200 :j
    Household £45.30/£50 :j
    Spending money £86.53/£100 :j
Restaurants £129.63/£100 (really need to up this)
    Fuel: £54.64/£80 :j

Mop pot: £186.82 - bit under target, but you'll see why...
    Mortgage capital reduction £400
    Outstanding balance £27,800

    Emergency funds: £3,000/£5,500
    Moving house fund: £50/£10,000

Capital work done on house: £2264

Net effect on savings/mop pot -£1300

This means I have cashflowed nearly £1000 worth of work on the house when my wages are only three quarters of this amount.

I'm calling this a win. March will not be any better, hopefully I can say 'Roll on April'
