I can't sleep if I'm hungry, but don't always want to get up and make a snack downstairs - I swear by Nakd bars. They're basically made from pressed fruit, taste like they've got all sorts of goodies in them but have no added nasties at all, not even sugar. I think they're marvellous. You can get them from Holland and Barrett to try them out - if you like them a lot you can buy them from the manufacturers by the box (which is what I do!)

    Hi all,

I am trying to be serious about being healthy, when I did some work at what will be my new teaching job for september i found my downfall was afternoons. I eat a healthy breakfast, snack of fruit when the children have their free fruit, eat a healthy packed lunch.

but because I'm living at home at the moment my mum finds it more cost effective to eat with her but this isn't until 8pm usually. so after school i found i was eating bad food before dinner.

any ideas what i can take with to snack on at the end of the day that will get me through until dinner? i eat everything, but i found i need something more than just fruit.

    Thanks! :)

  • I always snack on...

    - sugar snap peas (like crisps as they are crunchy)
    - apple & cheese slices together
    - fruit chopped with yoghurt
    - slice of 'Slimming World quiche' which sounds weird at first (google it ;)) but is lovely and perfect to keep in the fridge to snack on
    - cup of tea and dark chocolate as you don't need much for the sweet kick
    - a cup noodle snack is a good occasional snack if you need carbs, can get these cheaply from ALDI
    - humous & veggies sticks - carrot, pepper, sugar snap peas
    - homemade muffins with oats & dried fruit

I like peanut butter on rice cakes. Or a small handful of nuts. Or a hard-boiled egg. Celery and philly. I find a bit of protein fills me up. Just fruit makes me hungry!
  • I had a similar problem, teaching would just wipe me out.
I've started having soup when I get in (nice stuff rather than just cup a soup).
Its lovely and filling, but if its veg. it means I get another portion in, and is hardly anything calorie wise.
  • I snack on sunflower seeds, apple slices with cheese cubes, grapes, banana chips etc.

How have you got on so far? NOt sure if it's been mentioned, but it's always good to keep some HM soup on standby (to have as soon as you get home?) - mug of that would soon keep away hunger pangs until dinner

    Soup recipes may be useful
