My Hubby and kids like mini Weetabix as a crunchy snack, also air popped popcorn and things like sunflower seeds. I make fast things like rock buns for lunch boxes, cheese straws from leftover pastry, mini quiches in bun tins etc etc to use up fridge leftovers like one slice of ham and dried out cheese. Good home made bread (machine is fine) with jam or peanut butter as spread, without extra butter of course! All of these are proper food and will fill up hungry kids rather than chocolate or crisps which I think just makes them hungrier tbh.

For pud I make fruit salad or stewed fruit with custard or yoghurt or ice cream. Summer berries on bought meringue nests with squeezy cream on top. Jelly, jelly mousse (half set jelly whisked with a tin of evaporated milk), with or without fruit in it. I don't make heavy puds in the summer but in winter I make crumbles, pineapple upside down pudding, steamed puds etc.

I know not quite healthy but I whip up a few batches of fairy (cupcakes) cakes, some get put in the freezer and some I will top with a bit of icing or just leave plain depending what's in them. Muffins are also really good and filling. I make choc and nut ones, fruit ones and even plain. Muffins are so easy to make, mix up the wet stuff, mix up the dry and roughly mix together ( I have found the trick is, NOT to over mix them together at this stage) then bung them in the oven!

Flapjacks may be an idea? These are yummy..

Home baking does give you more for your money once you have the ingredients in and you know what is going into them. Though I think I need to work on the healthy side of things?! lol

    ThAnks for all that.

We had a pop corn maker, so will get some more corn. Normally only comes out if we are having a movie night or trip to cinema!

Will do some baking , still have smallest ds at home for 3 days next week and he likes to bake and might help take his mind off the fact that his big brother is back at school..

Can I freeze most baking? If we have A dozen buns or slices of banana bread in, they will eat the lot. Or just hide it lol

Will look and see what I need to bake, got home delivery coming tues.

    Thanks again

can you freeze buns and cakes should help but yes you can freeze most. APparently flapjacks freeze well but mine never make it there! This is my fave recipe stolen from Pink winged :)

You could make a sausage of biscuit mix up and freeze it - such as hobnobs or everyday biscuits

we also have the baking classics thread and what have you baked today?
