  • Thanks for all the fantastic advice guys,we're making progress already, eldest took her usual packed lunch of sandwich/fruits/water and cheese portion, but today she also bought some soup at the college canteen..Ironicaly she is studying food science and technology, and this is on the same campus as students studying hospitality, professional cooking etc(I think she takes so much fruit cos she's worried she will be tempted by all the lovely cakes etc for sale in student canteen),,anyhow, she was out to college from 07.30am until 5.45pm..and came home hungry...not ravenous just normal hungry, adding soup at lunchtime is helping her..id delayed dinner until 6,so almost perfect timimg for her...and youngest had 2 reduced fat digestives with hot sugar free squash..this seemed to tide her over...she only asked about 20 times "when will dinner be ready":rotfl:.....and No post dinner snacking, just a yoghurt each.(dinner was homemade chicken curry with loads of plain boiled rice-white/brown mix)
Tomorrow is a different challenge, eldest only in college until lunch time, but both girls leave the house at 4.30 for dancing lessons until 7pm..early dinner every Thurs'and after 2.5hrs of intense dancing they WILL be home hungry;) -will have soup in the slow cooker and bread in the breadmaker most of tomorrow.
And now to work on OH..3 days a week he is in charge of dinner when im at work...sometimes i prepare a slow cooker/pressure cooker meal before work, other times he will just have to bung something from the freezer in the oven, gonna have to retrain him not to do this as soon as he gets home at 4pm..otherwise we will be back to looking for suppers again, Hmm,he might take a bit harder work than the girls..

  • Hey all I'm new to mse os. Bought the book "Thrifty was for Modern Days" and loved it. so thats why I'm here. I'm generally not that good at budgeting although I try I always slip and loose sight of how much gets spent. All your tips are great and very helpful and encouraging. :money:
  • A hard boiled egg in the pack up would be a good thing for them to take which would keep them full for longer due to the protein, and healthy too. It is now considered safe to have an egg everyday, the old tales of no more than two a week have been discredited.

I hard boil several and store them in the fridge then take them for lunch one a day. I peel them when I want to eat them and they are very convenient.

You can also microwave them in those special microwave egg poacher thingies if you prefer not to have to peel them.
  • Pancakes/muffins in the freezer are good ideas, and pancakes arent too sugary either..ive just remembered i bought crumpet rings to try and make my own crumpets as per Hairy Bikers recipe...this would be as good a time as any to try them out,cheers.frilly-bloomers i think il have a look for that book in the library, sounds interesting.
Brilliant idea about the hard boiled egg...how long do boiled eggs keep(unpeeled) in the fridge?,ive never thought of boiling in advance.

  • Don't know, I usually do two on say sunday night and eat one monday and another tuesday, then boil another two tuesday night and they are fine. Occasionally if i forget I've got a lunchtime meeting or something they might go a day longer than that and they have always been fine.
  • brings back memories of paying'mum' to my 2 newphews last year. A pair of hollow legs they had and still do I believe although I do not care for them now as there back with Mum
I found toast and crumpets helped them and free acess to the fruit bowl
They soon realised the diffence betwene Auntie and Mum. Auntie doesnt get sucked in by Tv adverts advertising the latest popping crisps or choc bar. They asked for yogurts and they got Smart Price ones which to this day we really enjoy - funny they didnt!
Same with cereal it hasd to be the one with the yellow box and monkey on the front. Oh but it was (well in a box I promise just with own brand packaging) before it got put in my tupperware tub
Happily my 2 have been brought up without the Tv adverts and demands and eat whats in front of them. I accept they have genuine dislikes DS is breadcrumbs and DD Curry
Mad Mum to 3 wonderful children, 2 foster kittens and 2 big fat cats that never made it to a new home!
Aiming to loose 56 pounds this year. Total to date 44.5 pounds 12.5 to go. Slimming World Rocks!
  • As this thread has lots of great snack ideas, I'll add it to one of zippy's links, to keep ideas together.

    Hi

I am fed up of all the money we have been spending on extras I have told hubbie and kids that I will not be buying anymore crisps and choc etc anymore. I eat it cause it's in the house, and my weight is creeping up again and it's not good for the kids, they do like fruit but will choose crips over an apple if they have the chance.

I have been making a tea oaf and that has gone down well, also going to make some twinks.

I have an online shop ready to come next week, as that will help me stop putting choc bars in my trolly just because they are cheap.

Maybe puddings are the way to go? And get out of snacking?

Needs to be quick and cheap

    Thanks
