I'm mostly in my room 24/7 and frequently awake throughout the night, I'm trying to find some new snacks I can have in my room which are healthy (and relavitly lowish calorie too. I used to keep things like iced gems in my room but I want to improve my diet but at the same time when I switch to nuts and things like dates or sunflower seeds I can't believe how high in calories they are (I want to loose some weight as well as generally eating healthier).
I'm not the biggest fan of fruit and I like nibbling on crispy veg but not overly practice for 3am and warm celery that's been sitting there for 2 days.
I did look at an American powder you sprinkle over popcorn (prob full of additives) but you needed the spray to get it to stick and I couldn't find it in the uk.
Does anyone have any recommendations? I actually have a microwave in my room

Hi vikki,
Is there anything on this thread that would be suitable?
cheap/ healthy snacks
Is there a medical reason why you need to eat snacks during the night? The reason I ask, is that if you're concerned about your weight, snacking during the night may not be helping.
Some nuts and seeds can be calorific but they are also very healthy and nutritious, they will certainly contain less empty calories than things like iced gems and powder sprinkled popcorn.
If you do need to eat during the night for a medical reason and you already have a microwave in your room, would you consider getting a small 'beer' type fridge? They don't cost a lot or you could try placing a wanted add on freegle to see if anyone is giving one away. That would mean that you could keep the healthy veg that you do enjoy, crisp, cold and fresh.
Once you've had more replies I'll add your thread to the one linked to above to keep the ideas in once place.

Raisins and little rice crackers would be good, there's a spicy mix in Asda, not the cheapest but it is yummy!
Apart from that a selection of dried fruit, I have a tub in the kitchen which has a variety of little nibbles like the crackers and raisins and things, perfect to grab and go if needs beCredit Card: £796 Left/£900 October 2011 :eek:Store Card: £100 October 2011

I doubt waking and eating in the middle of the night is particularly heathly regardless of what it is.
Your digestive system slows down at night, your food sits in your stomach which will then cause a disturbed sleep. How about porridge, easy to do in the mircowave they have those pre packed portions if you not sure how to do, not going to keep you awake when digestion either. Cereal is another easy healtheir option but you will need to store milk. I find alot of so called healthy ceral bars contain almost as much sugar and calories as normal ones.
Fruit pots are also good as don't need to be kept in the fridge.0 -
You could bake potatoes in your microwave, as long as you kept them fairly dark when you were storing them. I did see some baked beans recently that were in microwaveable pots rather than tins - not cheap but easy to store, and a good filling for the potatoes. I think they were made by Heinz and were sold in Asda.
Sliced - or even just halved or quartered - peppers (red/yellow etc) are quite good to munch, as are cherry tomatoes.Life is mainly froth and bubble

If you don't already have one, a cool bag with an ice pack would keep things a bit more appetising for longer.

You can actually sprinkle brewers yeast on popcorn, lot's of b vitamins and no nasty chemicals. If you do it right after the popcorn stops popping and only use a little it sticks to the outside of the popcorn. It is a bit of an aquired taste and some of DD's friends think she's a bit mad as she loves it so much, but its very nutritious, and if the popcorn is airpopped, even low fat. If you like marmite or twiglets, give it a try.No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!0
