  • I used to be terrible with the munchies but it was starting to make my blood sugar levels go a bit crazy so I had to sort it out. Now I make sure that I have nuts, seeds and fruit at breakfast and then for my morning break at work. So for breaky, rather than just porridge with sugar I have porridge with sliced banana, ground seeds, ground almonds and chopped brazil nuts (and sugar). I wizz up the seeds and almonds about once a week and store them in a tub in the fridge as there is no way I could be that dextrous at 6am! Then for moning break at work I have a mixture of raisins, dried apricots, sunflower seeds and whatever nuts I fancy. I find that these really fill you up and mean you won't be constantly thinking about lunch. If I'm starving whenI get home and dinner won't be ready for ages, rather than having cookies and a cuppa I have peanut butter on a crispbread (or sometimes jut out of the jar).

Basically, nuts and seeds and dried fruit are your friends in this. To make ti more of a treat you could a dd a few chocolate drops to the break-time mixture or stir some into plain yoghurt, sprinkle on cereal etc. Just try not to add too much sugar or your blood-sugar will jump up and then crash down later maiing you want more snacks (which is what snacks normally do).
    Hope that helped :)

Hard boiled eggs make a good snack as does babybel cheese - protein is meant to be more filling and doesnt upset blood sugar the way carbs do.

Exacrtly what I was ggoing to say, reeduce the amount of carbs -up your protein -you will definately be a lot less hungry.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

Smaller, more regular meals throughout the day if you can, you don't eat more food you just space it out so you keep your blood sugar even. Agree about the protein, more filling.
  • the smell of vanilla takes away hunger - try vanilla musk perfume or body cream

How do you beat the munchies??
I try not to buy multi packs of anything munchy so to resist the temptation !!!!

If a friend buys me crisps / cakes / chocolate I can't hold on to them for long!

BUT I still get hunger pangs so I can't resist to woof things down a bit more than normal.

We have an existing thread on cheap and healthy snacks, so I'll add this thread to give you more ideas ;)

Hi. Iam currently trying to lose weight and in the last seven months have managed to lose a stone following weightwatchers. I absolutely agree with everyone who says that more fruit and veg both at meal times and in between meals for a snack is the way to go. I make lots of soups and if I feel a bit peckish will often have a cup of that.

Sometimes however, you just want something sweet with a cup of coffee and for those times I keep a packet of Caxtons Pink and Whites. They are wafers filled with mallow and are very low fat and low in calories. At 44p for a pack it is cost effective weight control!

For a guilt free nibble.........try brazil nuts (no chocolate coating) as they are a good source of calcium, magnesium, zinc and most importantly selenium.

Full of fat though - good fat, but fat is fat.

carbs keep you more sustained than protein. Eggs are full of cholesterol, Cheese full of fat.
