Maybe if he started the day with unlimited porridge and then ate a reasonable sizd lunch whilst his stomach wasn't completely ravenous he wouldn't be in the mood for an afternoon snack? From the kind of things listed it seems that your OH prefers snacks with fat in them, this indicates to me that he likes the sensation that being full rather than in need of a sugar rush.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

yeah he takes a packed lunch with him. usually 3 rolls with ham salad/beef and tomato tuna salad etc a banana, a yoghurt 1-2 little oranges packet of crisps and juice.
Mum26 i need a tub with a time release lock to stop him scoffing the whole batch of twinks hob nobs. I am not experimenting with choc chips and cherries in them.
Tryingtoruletheworld I enjoy baking plus i have this 'thing' about feeing my kids peservatives so I would rather make something semi healthy than buy something made 3 months ago and dated well into 2011.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000 -
How about some HM fishcakes/meatcakes. Use mash, some fried off onion, tuna or flaked fish, corned beef, bits of left over ham etc, mix together with an egg and fry them off to seal - bung in the oven to cook through - you could freeze these in pairs for a filling snack.
The mini quiches - instead of faffing with pastry - why not just mix up some eggs, cheese, splash of milk, fry off some onion and peppers (or whatever veg needs using) and pour into paper cake cases in a bun tin - bake as normal.
Pasta salads are filling - I make up a huge bowl now and then just with passata and mixed beans and veg, (keep the sauce nice and wet so it mixes well) I just keep it in the fridge and decant into pots for lunch boxes during the week.

I made tomato cheese and rosemary muffins for him on sunday evening. The batch of 12 lasted until friday when the last one went and there has been no naughty buying of snacks so I am happy. I will make another batch tomorrow evening. along with some scrummy hobnobsMF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000

Hi everyone,
I am currently almost 6 months pregnant :j and am finding it very difficult to think about anything other than eating!
I don't usually have a sweet tooth but over the last few months I have developed mega cravings for chocolate, crisps, or anything else that is bad for me!
I do also eat healthy meals, but in between I need to snack. Does anyone have any bright ideas for things I can eat without spending a fortune on chocolate bars and sweeties?
Thank you in advance!

Chocolate spread?? Maybe a slice of toast (or 3!!) with choc spread would satisfy the craving and fill you up a bit longer too?
Also you could make your own chocolate crispy buns etc.
When I had DD my pg craving was sandwiches made from white bread and filled with plastic cheese, crushed quavers, sliced pickled onions and a good drizzle of salad cream :rotfl:I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are; because a could-be is a maybe who is reaching for a star. Hi Jo:hello:
Congrats on Bump
Hmmmm, there are loads of threads about healthy snacks for teens and kids, but I can't find any geared specifically towards pregnant women :rotfl:My initial thoughts would be nuts and seeds/roasted chickpeas/flapjacks/dried fruit - dates are especially sweet and bananas?:p

Quick and easy alternative snacks
Cheap snacks to fill up teenagers
High energy foods when pregnant
I'll merge your thread later once you get more ideas
Thanks

Im trying to save money by cutting down on my shopping bill, meal planning is the way forward,
main meals, breakfast and packed lunches are not a problem, but snacking, or late night suppers are..i keep cold meat in the fridge for sandwiches,or canned tuna etc..couple of "emergency" ready meals, rice pasta etc..but i find these items probably cost more than the shopping for our main, cooked from scratch, dinners do!
..these "extra's" are for my 2 very active, growing, always hungry teenage daughters,I dont keep biscuits or crisps etc in the house..altho they eat a lot they are into healthy options(which again appears to be more expensive)Fruit bowl is topped up regulary(eldest takes 3 pieces of fruit to college, youngest has 2 for school)
So whilst i think ive mastered the budgeting for our main meal...how does everyone budget for the extras?Slimming World..Wk1,..STS,..Wk2,..-2LB,..Wk3,..-3.5lb,..Wk4,..-2.5,..Wk5,..-1/2lb,Wk6,..STS,..Wk7,..-1lb.
Week 10,total weightloss is now 13.5lbs Week 11 STSweek 14(I think)..-2, total loss now 1 stone exactly
GOT TO TARGET..1/2lb under now weigh 10st 6.5(lost 1st 3.5lbs)0 -
Well, my snacks don't take alot of budgeting for, this is what I have.
I always have a cerial bar in my bag for when I get hungry if out, rather than nipping into a cafe or buying something. I usually get whatever is on offer or the value ones.
Salted peanuts or dry roasted. Tesco's are usually cheaper than Sainsburys, I've found.
Shops own Oat Cakes and Mayo, you can get branded Oat Cakes Nairns I think is how its spelt, but I find the own brands are fine.0
