Had another thought - I ADORE cherry tomatoes, cut in half, drizzled with olive oil and balsamic vinegar then slow cooked in the oven - not dried, still a bit squidgy. Anyway, I use them in all manner of things - omelettes, muffins etc. You could make up cheese, rosemary and tomato muffins/scones or do mini pizzas with them. Both of those things could be batch cooked and frozen.0

Drain a can of chickpeas (or cook and drain some soaked ones if you're more organised than I am....)
Spray a roasting sheet with oil
Spread chickpeas on the roasting sheet
Sprinkle with salt, pepper and spices of your choice - chilli is good, spicy season all works well
Roast 'til they're dry (but not burned!)
Leave to cool and they go crispy and very similar to dry roasted nuts0 -
home popped popcorn is delicious!Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

my lot love french bread pizza,I buy french sticks at the end of the day for 10p each and then I slice them into portions and freeze them.
I make little mini quiches in the bun tray and freeze them.
Sausage rolls, tea bread and other mixes you can bake in a loaf tin go down well in our house.0 -
He knows his spending is unacceptable. He assures me it will stop but says he needs snacks as he finds 3 meals a day not enough. He does have a physical job. I have told him that is fine but crisps and processed junk is not good for him and as we are saving for a bigger house deposit it is actually delaying us moving home (he hates this place, says it's too small).
I usually batch cook in the SC so the left overs usually go in the freezer for the next week or three.
With regards to wedges do you just cut and tossthen in spices/a little oil then par-cook, let them cool then freeze???
I think i will have a go at Cheese, Rosmary and Tomato muffins today. I have already done a banana bread plus 12 banana muffins.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000 -
Hi, you could try getting a load of fruit and leaving it out in the kitchen in a bowl so he could just pick when he's peckish?
Mini quiches are lovely, you could make a big batch and freeze some.
Have you got the recipe forCheese, Rosemary and Tomato muffins please?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Hi Lilac
Yes, I coat the wedges in some oil, garlic powder, paprika, chilli powder and turmeric, or you can just buy a barbecue seasoning pack. Put them in the oven until they are almost cooked, about 20mins, and then cool and freeze. If you have some natural yogurt, mustard and garlic you could make a dip to go with it.
I am impressed by the amount of baking you are doing! I seem to do it in fits and starts.
You could also make goats cheese and onion tarts, and I love making flapjacks, they are just too easy! Mix oats, butter/oil/margerine, a little sugar/golden syrup and any stray over-ripe banana/grated apple, and anything else you fancy like cranberries, choc chips, chopped nuts or linseeds for hidden healthiness. I just shove it all together until it reaches a consistency I like. Put it in a moderate oven for around 25mins, or until very lightly golden. If I am very naughty I also coat them with choccy!0 -
If your OH is snacking while he's working, why not send him with a flask of soup and a hunk of home made bread? Both are very cheap and can be filling.
It may help to sit down with him and ask him his preferences for snacks (savoury, sweet, crunchy, etc.) to help find alternatives and to point out that most pies and biscuits etc are poor quality carbs mainly and that whole grains would keep him feeling full for longer.
It is also useful to multiply the amount spent during month to calculate the yearly rate. In this case your OH would be spending £720 on snacks at Tesco (hope he at least used his Clubcard!). Just think what could be done with that much.somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0 -
I've been sending my dp to work with some of Twinks homemade hobnobs, they really stick to your ribs, lol!
Does he take a packed lunch? He could take extra fruit, oaty things and maybe an extra wholemeal roll with a nice filling and would still work out much less than he is spending now?0
