afternoon all,
just looking for tips....with meals i am very good and OS but find that snacks are my downfall...me and OH love nights in watching a good film and always end up buying sneaky bags of crisps/sweets from the local shop (v expensive)
any ideas for nice yummy snacks to have that dont take too much effort....would pref something that can be made in advanced and saved for moments of weakness
thanks!

I found quite a lot of good ideas on this thread
Also for popcorn have a look at this thread
Hope this helps. I'm sure that Pink or Penelope Penguin will come along soon with a whole big list of snack threads for you0 -
i made flapjacks from the delicious twinks hobnobs recipe (thank you twink!! :T), but instead of squishing them into biscuit shapes i spread the mix over a baking tray and then cut them into flapjack shapes. i then put them in the freezer so they will last a while and we will have yummy snacks when we fancy it (after defrosting of course!!) i also reduced the sugar a wee bit and added chocolate drops - yummy!!
HM popcorn is definitely a good idea for savoury or sweet (and is also not very fattening!!), or what about making some yummy HM rolls and a nice olive tapenade or hummus? or a nice salsa or guacamole and cheap crisps from the supermarket?
HTH!! xx0 -

If you like dips and things you could chop up some cucumber and carrots and make a homemade dip - my mum always used to make one out of yoghurt and ketchup (sounds weird but it's so tasty!). Or a dip like raita made out of yoghurt with finely chopped cucumber and garlic. This works well for dipping crisps too, you could always make your own crisps by chopping potatoes or other veg like butternut squash or parsnip and bake with some oil in the oven.0

pretty much as the title says. I need savoury snack ideas.
I am currently trying to save money and ultimatly move house. We are a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 kids ages 2 and 1 both still either fully or partly in nappies.
For July we spent £561.64 on groceries. June was £587.22. Pay day is today so I will be making the first August shop tomorrow. During the week for evening meals I meal plan etc which goes well but I have noticed we are spending a small fortune on one off little shops in tesco's and the like. I know exactly what and who it is. It is my DH aka the dustbin he decides he is hungry and goes to a supermarketand spends £10-£15 on snack type things. Mini pork pies, little quiches, muffins caremal shortbread, biscuits and the like. I worked out in July alone he spent almost £180 in tesco with his card and none of that was normal shopping because I do it allincluding any topups needed. I now need ideas for OS and MS snack ideas that i could either batch cook and freeze or cook at weekend and they will keep for the week ahead.
I have on my list:
Twinks hobnobs
Rocky road
Banana muffins
Cheese Scones
Anyone have any more ideas?MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000 -
I don't know if this is something you'd eat but my New Favourite Thing is to fry loads of diced tofu in butter and toss it about in some spices afterwards...I just nibble on it like crispsAugust grocery challenge: £50
Spent so far: £37.40 :A0 -

How about popcorn? You can toss it in whatever combination of spices/flavours you like, so it can be sweet or savoury. It's cheap and (depending on what you add) healthy.0

That is a lot of food!
I make my own southern fries/wedges, freeze them, and shove them in the oven for 20 mins for a quick snack. You could make a big batch of the mini quiches he likes, in bun tins, and put them in the freezer too, quite easy to make. Carrot cake and banana loaf are a good stand-by, and quite cheap to make.
You could also make extra dinner and give him the leftovers. If you are having pasta one night, save a portion, add some salad bits and thats his snack for the next day, maybe with a little pesto, dressing or mayo. You could do this with potato (salad), cous cous etc. Cheese on toast is a great snack and super quick, sandwiches, cheap crisps, and lots of fresh fruit which can be served with ice-cream and choccy/fruit sauce to feel a bit more indulgent. Muffins are good, and you can even add raisins or a dollop of jam in the middle for extra gooeyness!
Have you actually sat him down and talked to him about what he is spending and that you find it unnacceptable, otherwise surely he will buy that stuff anyway?! What he spends on treats for a month is nearly twice mine and my bf's whole shopping budget!0
