Does anyone know if O2 throttle P2P traffic? I can't get a definitive answer anywhere (although I'm guessing the answer's yes....)

Considering this or Sky (Sky's online checker says I can have anyof their packages, but maximum speed is 512K - anyone know how accurate that is likely to be and would it be different for o2?). Also, I am currently an o2 customer but may be leaving shortly(depending on a good offer coming along!) - is the BB tied to your o2 (CPW in my case) account or do they just check when you sign up? Looks like a good deal for o2 customers but would you lose that if you left?

    Many thanks

The broadband is not 'tied' to your O2 account, but you get a discount of £5 if you are. I imagine their billing systems check automatically, but the only way to check would be to try it.

In answer to my own question (and for the benefit of others), the T&Cs for this state:
The O2 mobile discount is available to eligible O2 Consumer or Business Pay Monthly customers. The discount will be applied to your O2 Broadband Package at the time of you signing up for O2 Broadband, or if you subsequently inform us that you have become an O2 Consumer or Business Pay Monthly customer. If your O2 Pay Monthly contract is terminated, you will be automatically charged the standard price for your O2 Broadband Package from the date of termination. Only one discounted connection is permitted per O2 Pay Monthly customer. O2 reserves the right to withdraw or amend the O2 mobile discount at any time on reasonable notice.

So if you leave o2, you apparently automatically switch to the higher price.

  • I'm currently on BE* unlimited, paying £18 a month for 24mb, even though i can only recieve a max of 6mb, i typed my phone number into the O2 box and got this:
Be broadband is currently activated on this BT landline number. Because Be is part of O2, you can move to O2 Broadband without any penalty and without giving Be your usual three month notice of cancellation. You'll need to get a MAC key from Be before we can take your order though. So please raise a ticket through Be's member centre (http://www.bethere.co.uk/memberhome.do), or give them a call on 0800 234 8566.
How good is that! I can cut £10 off my monthly broadband bill and its not a lot of fuss because technically i'm not even moving firms

One major benefit I also see is email-to-text; I can now use my o2 email when i want an SMS notification of things on my O2 mobile
  • So, i was having a look on O2's website and out of interest put my phone number into their online broadband number checker. I'm with Be and i know they've been bought by O2.

Turns out i can transfer over to O2 without having to give notice and with no penalty. Even better than that, i pay £18 a month at the moment (but can only get 6mb) so i can move down to £7.50 as i'm already on an o2 mobile contract)

Has anyone else experienced transferring from Be to O2? Do you get a new box or keep the old one? Was the process easy?

    Hi guys

Thinking of moving to 02 in the next two weeks (100 day thing and free connection) but want to know how I can tell whether I'd be ADSL or LLU. Basically it says both are available and ADSL is upto 4mb. I read somewhere that as 02, Sky etc use LLU I could possibly get faster speeds (anyone explain this?)

I am currently on Orange, getting around 2mb and my exchange is LWASH.

    Cheers

The quickest way is if your on up to 8Mpbs package and your upload is 288 your on LLU
or check here if your exchange is Orange LLU enabled they more likely have you on it.
    Yes 02/Be are adsl2+ LLU
