How does a caravan get taxed or insured?

So how does the lack of tax mot make it abandoned?

    Remember what you said earlier?;)

It's quite easy to insure a caravan.

It doesn't, a caravan in this respect is no different to a trailer.

A caravan MUST be lit at night if it is parked on a road and comply with the other normal parking rules i.e the nearside must face the pavement so the rear lights are at the rear for approaching traffic.

Therefore it must be abandoned, according to our local authority manager.

Report as an abandoned vehicle, the Local Authority will put a 7 day notice on it to be removed from the Highway, as it is treated as abandoned, as not taxed, MOT'd or Insured, after 7 days they will remove if still there.

But then he knows full well a caravan is not a vehicle. Or does he?

Just looking for some advice please.

I live on a quiet residential street and have had a family move in next door who have a car and have now bought a huge clapped old caravan and parked it right opposite my house. Not only is it an eyesore but it's also taking up parking spaces, of course they have a car too.

Not only this but the house st the top of the street (actually on the top street) has 3 clapped out old camper vans parked on the street. Two of which I never actually seen move and I've been here over a year now! Again they are taking up parking spaces and he has a car which he parks on our street - not on his own street!

It's actually becoming a joke around here and is more like a scrapyard than the nice little street it should be!

My question is, is there anything I can do about it? I'm not being a killjoy but they are really lowering the tone of the street and I'm getting embarrassed about visitors coming around.

    Thanks for any advice given.

    This sounds very snobby...........

I'd rather camper vans than my street full BMW, Audi and commercial vans.

Also are these VW campers? do you have the slightest idea what those are worth??? A hell of a lot more than your own car......

Stupid money. I've been to see what they ask £3000 for, you need a dustpan and brush to collect most of it off the drive
I wouldn't give £30, which is what I suspect that they get them for, from people who think a rusty eyesore taking up half the garden is going to cost them to have it shifted :D

There is nothing wrong with being a NIMBY snob, if the reason you paid dear to live in a particular place in the first place was because the streets weren't full of rusty old vans.;)
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))
