    Well, that went well....

MoT passed, but there was a nail in the tyre.
I thought I'd have to buy a new one as the garage said it's outside the repair area... it turns out it's outside their approved repair area. I took the car to a tyre company up the road (expecting them to pop a new tyre on) and they repaired it!

I get "free puncture repair" at my garage, so back I trotted, waving receipts about - and the service manager said "not where that was, we've an approved area for repair only".

Only cost me £20 for the repair, so that's not too bad.... new tyre's about £55.

Always nice to know they've had a proper look around. Finding the nail proves that.
The garage I use seems to give good service, and they have a good look as well at MOT time, without (so far) "looking for work". They're always stacked out so they don't need to!

If you do a DNA test, instead of finding other family members, you might find out that: you are not you!

Last year I bought into a "deal", because it seemed to make financial sense and I had the money there/then, so figured it was best to pay that ... and not have to worry in '19 and '20.

I use the Main Dealer for my car type.

I get two regular services and a major service, plus 3 MoTs, for £449. There's also some other small print stuff I'd never bothered to read (free taxi, I presume to get to/from the garage if I needed it; free puncture repair; courtesy cars; 15% discount off some stuff; I think 10% discount off repairs).... I only live 200 yards from the garage though, so never needed to know this.

At today's prices, a minor service is £199, major services are £249. MoTs are £45. So that's £680 of "full prices" value, for just £450.

Sounds OK.. Min'es going in for an intermediate service. £175, MOT £35, and a brake fluid change at £50 (off the top of my head)

It's a main dealer, I've had it serviced there since I had it, apart from one year when I did it myself, but had the brake fluid changed and aircon regassed by an independent who was supposed to be good. They weren't, and they were supercilious as well as being expensive. I alos had a load of hassle getting the right parts for the service I did. I got the "right parts", which weren't right, and we then had fun trying to find the right sort of right parts!

The main dealer isn't the cheapest, but they've got the right diagnostics, do all the jobs they're supposed to, seem to check the car properly, pick the car up and take it back, and the chaps in the workshop seem to know what they're doing. No hassle to me either! :-)
    (I know I've convinced myself!)

This abandoned baby story's not ending well...

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-47378298

Long/short of it has turned out to be mother was 14, father 25. Mother hid pregnancy, nobody at all knew except the father. He organised to have the baby taken/dumped and she had no clue where it went. She then kept quiet, eventually married/had a family (who know nothing about it).

The mother phoned the authorities, to say "it's me" ... but it's now a police investigation!

Yes, thanks. Knew about that one... I never understand the price lists :)

Quite often, "just for a simple haircut" I'd book in for a "dry cut"...

When you have your hair cut they charge you for "things you didn't expect that they just do then charge you for".

e.g. if you want your haircut and it says £15 on the price list, you go in and come out having paid £10 for a wash/conditioner, blow dry and the cut on top, so a surprise £25, not £15. I used to look for "Dry Cut, £10" on price lists, then I'd walk in with it wet, they'd cut it and I'd walk out with it wet.

In the main I don't like having my hair washed .... nor blow dried (which I hate having done and hate the way it ends up) ...

For colours, there's a whole raft of confusing add ons.

The price list you sent me is where I previously totted it up to be about £70, looks like they might've reduced their prices since I looked (maybe ran out of mugs) :)

Trying to make sense of it, I suspect a bill would be:

Cut & blow dry in addition to colour £8
Full head highlights, they might call mine short, so £20-35
Toner inc blow dry (NO idea what this is, or if they'd just do that bit) £8-15.

    So, maybe £28, maybe £43.

Bizarrely, I used to have perms... they got as pricey as highlights - that price list says £10-20, inc all the washing/blow drying. But then they say root perm and you think "!!!!!! is that?"

It's an alien language - and what you pay is made up of so many confusing bits and pieces....

I am just going to post this on here for the benefit of people with depression or low self esteem or who are just feeling a bit vulnerable.

My other half and I have noticed a not very nice trend on social media which is to do with bullying. Nothing to do with this forum I might add.

    OK it goes like this.

You post something that has come from a UK government website for example and immediately someone says "you have got that wrong."

Now this is totally illogical because it isn't you that has got it wrong because it has come from an official source.

That "you have got it wrong" is a red flag that you are dealing with an online bully or person with NPD.

At that stage you must leave the group and block the person and delete them. It is also wise to block and delete any of their friends who might also be on your friends or followers list because if you don't do that the bully will try to get at you through someone you both know.

It can happen if someone is determined to make a political point.

If you miss the first red flag the next ones are.

    You are lying.

    You are making this up

    Your story keeps changing.

    You are spreading false information.

All of these indicate you are dealing with a bully. It can happen even after you have posted a link to the site you are writing about. You can still be accused of lying.

They do it to get control of what people can post and so they can then take over the group.

It can happen anywhere. It happened to me yesterday on a site which is moderated to specifically exclude bullies. So don't take for granted that people who do this can't get onto these sites.

In case anyone is interested this is the information that I posted that I was told was I had got wrong.
https://www.gov.uk/universal-credit I copied it from this site.

I also posted something from another site and was accused of lying and getting that wrong too.

This bullying is extremely nasty and unfortunately I don't always see the red flags soon enough to get out.

It works for the bully because there are enough people like me who come from disfunctional backgrounds or who have low self esteem who don't spot the red flags fast enough.

I want to thank the people on this thread for being so nice and so ready to discuss things in a civilised way. Without you I would be feeling a lot worse today about this bullying than I am. So thank you all.

I just walk away because even if I know I am 200% right, correct, the source is correct and it's all indisputable .... I know that others have the verbal ability to show me up as wrong and gather a gaggle round them of like minded idiots.... no matter how you respond, they twist your words round and make up things you said, that you didn't, or things they declare you meant, which you didn't.

    I just walk.

This is what my hairdresser charges. For washing my hair, cutting it and blow drying it and applying hair spray she charges £20. I make this up because it isn't very much for where I live so I usually pay her about £25. I don't want to ask her not to do all these things because then she would have to charge me less. It is like that thing where you go to a restaurant owned by a friend and you order extra drinks so that you can pay them more as well as leaving a large tip.

I am not very keen on going to the hairdresser because I have a sensitive head and it hurts a lot when they pull your hair to cut it or wash it. I don't go very often because of this. I don't want to tell her that it hurts because she is just doing her job and it is problem that I have and have always had.
