I had a bit of a health scare today.

Some weird visual disturbances which I'd never had anything like before.

Anyway, with some prior knowledge plus a bit of googling, I decide to phone my optician, who told me to ring an emergency eye hospital number, who told me to ring my GP for an emergency appointment to rule out a TIA/impending stroke,

Well, I got the emergency appointment, and a TIA* was ruled out, thank goodness.

The diagnosis was an Ocular Migraine (which doesn't t have to be accompanied by a headache), and nothing to worry about.

Several very anxious hours later, all is well.

    And breathe.

(Ps. If the visual disturbances hadn't been scary, they were actually rather beautiful!)

    * (Transient Ischaemic Attack, or, in layman's terms, a mini-stroke).

Today is service/MoT day ... hope it passes.

Beginning to wonder if I should've had the service and MoT on the same day because if it fails the MoT catastrophically, then would having it serviced have been any good :)

*fingers crossed* eh ... like last year, and the one before ...

I've had it nine years so far. It's not broken down or needed anything for MoT to date. I've replaced windscreen wipers, 2-3 tyres, new battery and a new windscreen (£75 excess). That's been it.

    Next week: Tax disc.

Week after: Insurance. Actually, better check that online right now.. EDIT: Ah, I have to dig out paperwork and/or remember who I'm insured with and phone them. Not had a letter, so it must be all right.... it's either CoOp or Saga. Got it, end of April :)

    It's never ending!

That is a very good car! 9 years and that is all you have spent on it? Right now it at its most economical. You are lucky.

I get them too. Often set off by bright moving light eg reflection of sun on passing car.

First time it happened I was in work, and had to get husband to drive me home in his lunch hour (worked part time, mornings only).

I agree the patterns are interesting and sort of beautiful, if odd. Lots of pics on the net of them...

Deffo agree are scary when you don't know what they are. Hugs.

I get something similar but mine are not migraine. They are a blood pressure thing. I don't have high blood pressure but I can get low blood pressure from loss of salt.

It is quite a good idea not to assume that they are migraine because these similar things can also be caused by very very high blood pressure I have been informed.

I didn't buy it brand new either :)

    It's a 2006 plate. I bought it in early 2010 for £6-7k. I think it was £7k and I got a £1k trade in on my previous car (a 2001 plate).

Goodness! I never realised they were quite common! Especially as I'd never heard of them before.
I also never realised that Migraine didn't have to involve head pain.
My visuals were very shimmery, very bright silvery circles.

    Live and learn.

Yes, it's a good idea to rule out TIA/stroke. The GP did a whole load of neurological tests, which were ok, and I didn't have any other symptoms.

It's like a lot of things, until something comes into your radar you never realised how "it's everywhere" - whether that's a medical thing, or a particular car or child's name or ... well, anything :) Then it's everywhere!
