Joe has been offered a uni trip to either Malaysia, China or Japan for summer school. At the moment he is veering towards choosing China where he would get the chance to learn (some) Mandarin and immerse himself in the Chinese culture whilst staying and learning in a private university there for a short while.
DS1 went to a chinese university for a month. He was well looked after and did experience the culture, he said it was impossible to get to grips with mandarin.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. On The Jewish festival of Purim, it's customary to give little gifts of food, called mischloach manot. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mishloach_manot
DW and I are thinking of sending a couple of bars of chocolate to Theresa May, as she does look terribly glum at the moment, and this might cheer her up. Would that go down well, do you think? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
She's a type 1 diabetic GDB, so not sure how much chocolate she would be allowed. Sainsburys sells sugar free choc though and I'm sure other brands are available. She does look worn down, so it's a nice gesture. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Then somebody, completely out of the blue posts about being stunned by the negativity posted. I look back, I can see no negativity.
They'll then come out with statements like not being childish, and about pointless comments ... and calls other posts rubbish.
Now ... in my eyes that's somebody seeing negativity where it doesn't exist. It's simply people having a chat about the link. Then they are trying to "be a leader" and rally support around themselves when - in fact - THEY have made the only "negative" comment ... and, within 10 minutes, you can bet your bottom dollar others have replied with phrases like "keyboard warriors" and "ignorance".
e.g. say if a newspaper had reported the local wool shop was moving down 2 doors - and some people had reponded to a link to that story by saying "I go in there", "I don't go in there, I get my wool up the road", "I used to go there but they don't sell double knit any more" and "I wish they were open Wednesdays too".
*shrugs*
I just don't get it.
And you can't say "Hey - there's nothing negative there..... you're saying people are negative and yet your post appears to be the only negative one present. Wind your neck in"... but you have to stay quiet as you've no wish to engage in a post with such "negative people"
That kind of thing seems to be getting worse along with the people who will argue with you about anything and everything.
Yesterday I deleted a community group where one member called another member "that horrible man" and was extremely nasty just because they shared different opinions on a subject.
Where have all these people come from who "have to be right" about everything.0 -

A few years ago I met someone who is Chinese and lives in China. She didn't speak mandarin until she visited London and she learnt it there.0 -

Online groups can be very weird. I am a member of a large online community for the area where I live. Yesterday one member thought it was normal and acceptable to post the filming of the terrorist atrocity to it. Thankfully the rest of the group made it very clear why that wasn't acceptable.
In general, calling someone names just shows they've lost the argument as they can't articulate anything else that a valid response. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Good point. I originally thought of sending nuts, but I thought that might be misconstrued. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
I've still got the expired tax disc in the car. There's no reason to remove it, so I haven't.I’ve got a collection of tax discs. I used to put the new one in front of the old one and keep them as a stack building up in the car. When I changed cars someone said that one day they would be valuable, so I’ve kept them. Even indoors stuck at the back of a draw they do fade.
I've kept all mine from the very beginning. I thought they were interesting ephemera, and I believe they are becoming collectors' items.
Edit..... sorry Silvercar..... I posted this before I saw yours.
I used to stack mine in the holder, too!(I just lurve spiders!)

My are very similar to yours black and silver zigzags that move slowly across field of vision, they do not normally last as longs as yours maybe 20mins less sometimes. I have noticed lately that before they fully materialises I get a small blind/blurred spot but this only noticeable if I'm reading or watch TV. I'm not sure what causes them but I think it could be something to do with light/lighting I don't think it's stress because I get them when I'm not suffering any stress at all.
These are some causes......
"Causes Of Ocular Migraine
Genetics
Central nervous system disorder
Chemical imbalances
Hormonal imbalances
Emotional or physical stress"
Then there are triggers, which can be similar to the triggers fro common Migraine....you know... lights, screens, alcohol, certain foods, etc.(I just lurve spiders!)

I must admit, she's very resilient!
Am not surprised she lost her voice.
I wonder what her blood pressure has been like?
Although my politics don't coincide with hers, I have admired her persistence, from a purely objective point of view, unlike the staying power of several others, whose names I won't mention!
Edit...... on the subject of Number Ten, there was a sketch on Comic Relief last night, about them doing a knock-knock joke on the door of Number Ten.
They showed the door for Number Ten, and then someone doing the joke.
the door looked exactly like that of Number Ten, except that there was a letterbox in the door, and I thought that Number Ten doesn't have a letterbox.
I would have assumed it was a spoof, except that afterwards, the people were saying how Number Ten had let them do it and worked with them. But if it wasn't the real door, did they?
Strange.(I just lurve spiders!)
