Oooh! Is that the Rosh Hashana I've been noticing?

I subscribe to Jacquie Lawson e-cards, and they sent me an email to say they had some brand new Rosh Hashana cards. They are animated ones, mostly, although they do have some still life ones! :D

A good and sweet New Year sounds good to me! :D Thank you!

Indeed! Rosh (head) Ha (the) Shanah (Year).

My Hebrew is awful, but I don't think Hebrew bothers too much with niceties like prepositions, eg 'of'.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

    That's interesting!

So is Rosh also a human head?
Or just 'head' as in 'front of'?

I think it's both. Hebrew has a very small vocabulary compared to English. At least, that's what I was told.

When I was a child, a Jewish neighbour used to call me bubbelah! :)

(Although is that Yiddish as opposed to Hebrew? )

I seem to remember I went around calling people bubbelah because I thought it was a lovely word! :)
    It sounded cuddly.

Darling, or at any rate, a general term of endearment, I suppose like 'lovey' or 'duckie' or something.

For New Year: Jewish people, unlike the great unwashed masses of Christians and assortments... don't seem to go out, get blind drunk and get photographed having piggy backs home with their 4rses hanging out of their knickers under very short skirts... all in the name of "Happy New Year"

    Why not?

    More sense? :D

To be fair, there are a lot of Christians, atheists and sundry other assortments who also don't celebrate a New Year in quite that way! :rotfl:

    Take me, fr'instance.
I just go to bed around 10pm on NYE. :D

Plus, I haven't worn a very short skirt since, thinks, about 1972. :rotfl: :rotfl:
