    ...£50 worth ...

For some companies, the overhead cost of people/systems/storage etc means there comes a point where it costs them more to do what you'd expect than to do the unexpected.

I need to go out on the rob .... without getting caught :)

Whenever I pop to the beach I come back with a hand full of shells ... the idea is that, over time, you get enough to be "useful" in the garden... trouble is, it's a 2 mile walk there/back, so not something I do more than 2x a year in reality .... but I'd now like the equivalent of about 3 visits worth, to sprinkle on/with the slate ....

It's probably technically illegal to go robbing the odd stone or shell off a beach; nobody minds if you're beach-combing and picking up a small bag to take home.... trouble is I really need a couple of big buckets' worth and I'd look like some "dodgy trader" lugging those back and anybody who is "in the know" about the law might just be overly miffed at my apparent greed and decide to make an example of me :)

I think you might be right there!
I think it is technically either illegal or against some bylaw.

Whereas a child with two or three shells wouldn't be sniffed at, an adult with a couple of bucketfuls might raise some eyebrows, assuming anyone saw you.

Also, they'll probably reek for ages, unless you soak them in bleach or something, because some of them will still have bits of the occupants in, nicely decomposing away.

I'd not pick any up that looked manky.... they're usually well up the beach so had a good washing ... and, outside, there's never been any smell from all the others I've got.

Truth is ... I CBA to walk 2 miles to get something for free. There's no helping some people is there :)

Still waiting for this C/C .... I bet it doesn't arrive today. ebay says estimated delivery is Wed 8/Thu 9 - but it's getting a bit lateish. I know there's still "plenty of time" left in the working day, but one usually expects arrivals pre 11am... not late afternoon.

I know if I stop watching for it, it'll arrive 2 minutes later and I'll be none the wiser until I check tomorrow morning, then be annoyed I'd stopped watching.

You could always try posting a request on Freegle.
Someone has probably got a pile of shells they don't want any more!

As it was an outdoors wedding, I bought 5 umbrellas from Amazon. They were not used, so we decided to send 4 back, and I asked Amazon to collect them.

After a few days, they were still here. I sent a reminder and was promised collection on Monday. They are still here, so I emailed again this morning.

Amazon have now refunded me for all 5 of them and told me to keep them. That's £50 worth of umbrellas given away because they can't organise a collection. There's sensibly good customer service and ridiculously good customer service ...

I recently used Amazon return service and it directed me to a collection point nearby. Turned out to be a local backstreet newsagent who seemed to do more parcel return work than sales. Good service as you just showed your phone and didn't need to label the parcel or print anything out.

When my aunt lived in Southbourne, I am sure that there was a "shell house". I wonder what happened to that.

    Ah, found it:

Yes, I went there in 1968 - while on holiday. It was something I looked up in ~2012 when I was in the area - and when I saw it wasn't there I still drove down the road....

Bah, 7.15pm and still no Click & Collect joy .... oh well.. maybe tomorrow.

Curtains/nets/similar are the final things on the list that are "biggies". I've spent months looking for/waiting for "affordable curtains that'll do" ... just something fairly neutral, with a bit of "something strong about them" .... but a huge size, so they never come cheap :)

Been watching all the FB selling pages and searching ebay and looking at curtain sites .... the only ones that come up in my size are dark, dark, dark.... and I want/need light, light, light.

I've got a pair I purchased in error from a car boot - bit annoyed at that as they were the wrong fittings (I got carried away at seeing the right size at just £3, still in the pack) .... they're not ideal (plain faux silk), but they'd do (cost me £3). And I CBA to go through the pain of trying (again) to unsuccessfully source enough affordable curtain rings and plastic twisty/join things to get them up.

Ikea are really cheap for all sorts of curtains and rails, poles, rings etc. in all sorts of patterns, colours and materials.

However, I don't expect you want to traipse there, but they do do some things online, so it might be worth a gander.

I've bought loads there over the years; in fact, I'm staring at some right now!

They are very long, and come un-hemmed, so you can make them the right size. I never bothered with that! :D

Have a look here for starters......

sorry not the right link ....having trouble with links today.
