Yes, sorry.
Kefir water is a fermented drink made from 'brewing' kefir 'grains' with water and sugar.
Kefir grains are a symbiotic clump of yeasts and bacteria (friendly ones) that were originally found on a cactus, I believe.
Anyway, they can be used to make kefir milk, which is like a liquid yogurt, but I don't like milk, so I couldn't get on with it. (Milk makes me feel sick).
Then I discovered kefir water, which uses the same grains to make a fruit-flavoured water-, rather than milk-based drinks.
The brilliant thing about the Kefir water is that all the sugar is used up by the 'grains', which produce the CO2 fizziness as a byproduct. The yeasts and bacteria are very good probiotics and help to repopulate a gut if its own populations have got out of balance and are causing problems.
So you have a non-alcoholic drink, with a buzzy fizz, no sugar (or sweeteners), chock full of probiotics, and only 7calories per 100ml.
The only downside is the cost, which is why I want to have a go at making it myself.
The Purearth brand (they spell it like that!) makes three flavours, the grapefruit one, which is my favourite, a spirulina one which is quite nice, and another one with mint and something else, I forget what.
I get mine through Abel and Cole, the organic veg people, and it costs £3 per 330ml bottle, so is as expensive as a good beer! But much better for you.
If I add the ginger shots, it's even more expensive, and it raises the calorie level a bit, but still not as much as normal fizzy drinks or alcohol.
I have made my own ginger beer, (non-alcoholic), but it's full of sugar.
I am quite happy to have the kefir water on its own, though.(I just lurve spiders!)

Posh alert- we now have a fridge with a water dispenser so we don't even have to open the door to get a jug out. I keep forgetting though so normally just use the tap. Keep forgetting to fill the dispenser up too.PasturesNew wrote: »It'd worry me around issues like how long the water'd been in there - and was I cleaning it thoroughly ... or would nasties build up over time that are killers.
Our fridge has a water dispenser that has a feed from the cold water supply. No need to fill it up.
The fridge has a filter that needs to be changed every 6 months, to prevent the build up of nasties.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I don't even put water into the fridge to chill. I just drink it straight from the tap.
If it's too cold, it can be a shock to the system and can set your teeth on edge when you're gulping it down!
Besides which, my fridge is usually too full of veg and stuff (bottles of kefir water!) to fit a jug of water in!

Eye off the ball realisation!
Wally ... hadn't been keeping my eye fully on the ball there. 8 days/no sign or sight or sound .... suspected/hoped but didn't dare believe as their car's still parked in the spot ... not moved though, but using the space.
Just loaded RM to see if it was for rent (expecting 0 results) - and it's there! Wally's house, to rent. So they HAVE gone!!!!
Added to RM 6/8
I can't begin to describe how the anxiety has fallen away and I can breathe easy and feel my inner happiness returning
I was worrying about the untidiness of the front approach as I'd left it full of brambles/thistles and all sorts in the corner to make it unwelcoming to strays ... but now I can garden that bit and tidy it up, knowing (hoping) that feral interlopers will no longer be roaming free!
When you're under a mental strain it really prevents you moving forward so easily ... and sucks you in.0 -
Oh Pastures, that's wonderful news :j0

Really pleased for you PN. Both with Wally's absence and that the handyman has sorted your little jobs.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Oh gosh! I can so relate to that!
When a previous neighbour took agin me, and started saying nasty remarks when I was out the front, or even in my back garden, it was really stressful, and I stopped using the garden much, and wouldn't linger out the front.
(He was ok, the children were ok, it was the wife).
It was horrid, especially as I had really tried to be a good neighbour.
Anyway, one day, I suddenly saw a Sold sign appear!
Whoop whoop whoop! :T
I didn't even know they were selling up!
It was wonderful! Felt like I'd been let out of prison!
And the new neighbour who arrived couldn't have been nicer!:)
So yes, you can breathe more easily now, Pastures!(I just lurve spiders!)

After 10 years the ice maker broke on ours and we can't decide whether it is worth spending a couple of hundred getting it fixed or just live with it till we get a new one.
And now the paddle that dispenses the water has broken and every two weeks we get an email from the parts supplier saying it will be at least another two weeks. I may have to try ordering from the usI think....0 -

How long will you (or someone) leave it before reporting it as abandoned?knowing (hoping) that feral interlopers will no longer be roaming free!
What about all the others? Were they always attracted by the presence of the one?0 -

That is the sort of part that doesn't take a lot of strain. In future, the parts companies won't keep them in stock. They'll just print them when needed, or sell you the print file so you can print it yourself. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
