You can get cool pads for your bed......large (ish) ones and smaller ones. I've had one for a few years. They're not too bad, but of course, if you lie on it all night it warms up.
I find it's more useful if I put it next to me on the bed and then half roll onto it from time to time.
I can't remember where I got it from.....some catalogue I think.
Coopers of Stortford do pillow-sized ones, £9.99 a pair IIRC - saw them in the last catalogue that came in the post.0 -
Edit edit.....hahahahahaha! You can also get one for your hamster! :rotfl:
You can also get a cool granite block for your hamster to sit on!
The sad thing is that somebody out there, who is in debt, has probably rushed to buy one of these .... and a spare. All on their credit card...

Well, that was an unexpectedly productive little harvest. I thought I'd spotted enough beans on my dwarf runners to accompany the lump of pork I'll be roasting tonight, along with other veg of course - probably to be new potatoes, carrots (freshly pulled of course) and the first harvest of the baby leeks.
However, when I took the bird netting off and had a proper look inside the "jungle", I found that there was almost a pound of beans ready for picking - they are very good at hiding in the foliage
There are still plenty of immature pods too that I've left to get big enough, and loads of flowers still awaiting the attention of the bees.0 -

They'd use anything though .... the current local ginger tom prefers to scratch at the membrane/bark and poo there.... little blighter.
At least gravel/similar can be sluiced with a hose/bucket of water... that bark stuff flies about if you try that0 -
Ivy, if it's slate pieces, I would think that that might be less attractive to cats, but only time will tell.
I have a small patch of gravel and I purposely got large stones, thinking that they wouldn't scrabble those, but I was still plagued by cat poo until I started putting bits of fennel plant down, and coincidence or not, it seemed to work.
Pastures, from what you've told us of the ferals, you were right not to risk gravel until the danger was passed!PasturesNew wrote: »The sad thing is that somebody out there, who is in debt, has probably rushed to buy one of these .... and a spare. All on their credit card...

I know it's partly the ADHD, but when I'm in some shops, my eyes positively swim with the huge amount of carp on the shelves, and my brain can't cope!
The run-up to Christmas is even worse, as even the carpiest carp gets out-carped!(I just lurve spiders!)

Lovely and sunny here - I've just come in foir a break and cool-down.
I've been out starting to build my last non-aviary - a netted cage to keep the birds off my veggies.
It's a non-aviary because no matter how well I thought I'd got a loose net pegged down they'd still find a way in but were incapable of finding the way back out again, so it's going to be frames lined with netting that can be screwed/clipped in place.0 -
Cool/damp/overcast all day so far here.
Went out on a Round Robin.... returned with a small haul of things I wanted. Fence browner .... bathroom lightbulb .... picket fences.
Homebase had some slate/40mm for £7, but I thought I'd check out Wickes ... but Wickes only had 20mm... so I need to return to homebase at some point, but it's non-essential (but if I don't go, you KNOW the shelves will have been cleared for Xmas tat)....
I'd bought two little fences before - and a bit of paint to daub on them - then I started painting the first one and it was tortuous ... but I struggled on. First one still needs "a bit more of a dab" .... but I still went ahead and started painting the second one .... so I've one in-situ nearly done and one propped up outside that's half done - and I really don't have the heart. I could ask "little man" to paint/place them - but the reality is that the cost of the little man would end up pricier than just buying two unpainted ones to be honest. They don't need to be painted... so fine as is.
I'm awaiting a click/collect order I placed last week .... click/collect is great when it arrives in a timely manner, but this one's dragging its feet.
While out I randomly picked up a couple of these:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/DEKTON-18-CANVAS-TOOL-BAG/dp/B0744C365F
Mainly based on price as they were just £1 each.
I've got a random collection of "inherited tools" that need to be kept tidier/more portable.... and I thought they'd be ideal. The tools are currently in a plastic box, but it means lugging the whole box out everytime I'm looking to see if what I was looking for exists in the pile.0 -
As it was an outdoors wedding, I bought 5 umbrellas from Amazon. They were not used, so we decided to send 4 back, and I asked Amazon to collect them.
After a few days, they were still here. I sent a reminder and was promised collection on Monday. They are still here, so I emailed again this morning.
Amazon have now refunded me for all 5 of them and told me to keep them. That's £50 worth of umbrellas given away because they can't organise a collection. There's sensibly good customer service and ridiculously good customer service ...No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
