My mum is partially deaf, so has the subtitles on the tv. This is fine when watching a pre recorded programme, but yields some interesting examples when watching the news.

I think they use some form of talk text conversion and the results often bear no relevance to what is actually said. Not an actual example, but along the lines of "She was imprisoned for 20 Daves".

I do wonder if mum ends up with a very skewed idea of what's going on in the world and whether the system for the blind has similar foibles.
Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

With Aspergers, some can be very outgoing and in your face. Josh was one of those, he had no idea of personal space and would be talking AT you literally a couple of inches from your nose.

He was/is still very naïve with no sense of danger, we always joked he would be the one that would go off with the 'nice' man to see the puppies while the much smaller and quieter Joe would both scream the place down and gouge the person's eyes out if anyone even tried to touch him let alone pick him up.

Had some excitement yesterday, first company came to measure up and quote for the stair lift, another company is due to do the same on Tuesday.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

This kid would approach the man and ask him if he had puppies - then would scream blue MURDER if she thought the nice man had puppies and wasn't letting her see them. She'd hang onto his van and scream until she was allowed in ..... and 3 adults would be hard pressed to prise her hand from the door handle.

When I've accidentally turned AD on, it's sometimes a while before I realise, and to be honest, it is a good description of what is going on. I supposed it's done beforehand, rather than 'live', so there aren't any mistakes. It does just describe silent bits in the programme, rather than speech, so says things like, "Joe opens a cupboard door and takes out two mugs, then makes coffee. Into one mug he pours the contents of a small bottle, and stirs it".

(I'm obviously watching too much Midsomer Murders, :D)

That's a very good example though, Pyxis :D

Hmm, yes. They managed to upset Newcastle fans when the autotranslator managed to turn "black and whites," (that was black and whites comma) into "black and white scum" :T

It also managed to insult the Norfolk town of Cromer, famous for its crabs, describing it as "Cromer, famous for its c r a p" :rotfl:

Excellent! Hope it all goes ahead smoothly.

In other news, DD and I are stepping up the search for the right rescue dog for our family. Some of the rescue centres are VERY fussy - almost every dog seems to need a "quiet but active" adult only home where there is somebody about most of the day and no visiting children. All very well if you're physically fit and recently retired, but there must be a dog out there who would like to come and live with us.

We went and viewed one today, and put our names down for him, but we are both having second thoughts. He's a lurcher, like Avatar Dog, but unlike Avatar Dog, he doesn't understand about playing with humans. He's not at all interested in balls or rope toys. All my favourite memories of Avatar Dog are about playing with him, and I admit having had secret thoughts of "yes, very nice, but she doesn't play so she's boring" about the former Next Door Dog (who is still alive but doesn't live next door any more). We'll sleep on the decision, but I think we'll pull out tomorrow. He's a lovely dog and will probably have no trouble finding a home.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)

    That'd fit my household - but I don't want/like dogs....
