I don't understand why you need to change the box, at all? You are managing fine with your blu tac and carrier bag. Will buyers even notice?
For such a "small" sum I'd just like it dealt with. The plastic bag fitting is "chavvy" and I deserve better for my final months
I have a little man attending to all these odd jobs.... so that's it. It'll bring me a little joy each day that I don't have to grope around inside a plastic bag .... and then have to just press it all back in place etc.0 -
I had to alter the box slightly. The available locks were a bit bigger diameter, so I had to drill the hole out to 20mm.
Easy if you have a step drill, not so easy otherwise.
I've had three post boxes here.
First one was changed because it was too small.
Second one was changed because, again, it turned out to be too small.
This third one is big enough, and the slot takes books and small parcels, but I had to put magnets in it to hold the lid down, add a seal above the slot to stop the water running down under the lid, and now change the lock because it was crepe.
Not a cheap box either.
What annoys me is how few shops have letterboxes. It caused me a lot of grief once, when I wanted to post a repeat prescription into the Chemist's and it was a Sunday and I was off away for a few days.
No letter box.
So after much deliberation, I decided it would fit between a thin gap, so I pushed it through that.
On my return , I discovered it had caused a lot of trouble, as it had got stuck between the two leaves of the sliding door.!
Serves them right for not having a letterbox.(I just lurve spiders!)

Goodness!
One day, someone will let her in, and then she could be in a load of trouble!
What in God's name are her parents thinking?

I'm quite glad I've just got a hole in the door! :rotfl:

Really the box is there at least partly for the benefit of the postie.
The gate into the road is about 50 yards away from the bungalow.
We like to keep the gate shut as it discourages [STRIKE]visitors [/STRIKE]random folk and dogs from just wandering down the drive.
So having a place where most post fits is handy for him. (and he is a very good postie)
There's a box by the back door for bigger stuff. Security isn't really too much of a problem here.
Places with no postbox at all are a pain.0 -

A 50 yard front drive?

Pastures will be going into posh alert overdrive!Only from the front door.
We're lucky.
Lucky? We call that "posh" here.
50 yards is 150 feet.
If you use 15 feet to build a 12 foot wide (internal) house ... that's 10 houses you could fit just up your front drive.
It's .... kind of a posh alert.
In fact, you could probably fit all my neighbours' houses into your front drive. Not mine .... I'd not wish to be near them.0 -

If you want to be real posh, it's more than two cricket pitches :rotfl:PasturesNew wrote: »I have a little man attending to all these odd jobs.... .
Maybe this "little" man is more like one of these;

(But we don't want to!)
We know the "joys" of neighbours.
It's a smallholding. Although we don't do much with it that way at present.0 -
