Turn the main stop c0ck off? That limits the damage to the water in the tank in the loft.

no loft, no tank, still at the caravan!

OH soaked some old towels in hot water and wrapped them round the pipe (not metal, yellow plastic of some kind) and it's thawed out for now. Snow all melted, though snowing again. Not sticking though.

Oops! I should pay better attention. That all makes sense now. So, you are cosy enough inside the caravan, but a bit of the outside pipework is exposed to the Beast from the East. It's good that your OH is so handy.

One thing dad would use in more recent years to cover outside tap pipes "just in case" was just regular pipe insulation foam. It had a slit down the length, it was straight cut so I doubt dad did that with a stanley knife... so it was just a question of having the right diameter hole in the middle and "pushing it on/around" the pipe ... and as foam bends and is easy to cut it's something "anybody can do easily and cheaply"

Something like that can be got from regular DIY type shops, Wickes, Homebase, B&Q, Screwfix, etc.

Can you swap shifts with somebody else? Maybe the road will get gritted or the snow will melt?

Unfortunately not. It took me 40 minutes to do what is normally a 6 or 7 minute run due to conditions/broken down or crashed vehicles but made it safe and sound (albeit with soggy shoes from clearing all the snow off the car).
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I once bought a car secondhand that came with snow chains in the boot. So, on one of the few days there was some snow, I used them. They worked really well, and the car just went smoothly up hills that the 4WDs were slithering around on. But, given how rarely we get snow around here, it's not worth buying them. Besides that, you can't really use them on clear roads, so you would have to keep stopping and putting them on/taking them off.

I just went out .... all perfectly normal out there, I popped into a shop for 10 minutes and when I came out there was a sudden/short snowstorm - visibility was about 20 yards/metres! It's finished/gone now, only lasted 10 minutes.

It is very pretty this morning. Blue sky and clean snow, like on a Christmas card. Much too cold to go out, though!

Same here. I turned my storage heaters up yesterday because of the cold, bu,t obviously didn't do it very well. It is 16 degrees in my kitchen with a tiled floor. Just went in there without realising and it was horrible being barefoot. Will put heating back on highest setting, but it doesn't come back on until lunchtime, and I'll be well gone by then.

And here too - at about 20' above sea level and less than half a mile from the sea it's got to be pretty bad for us to get any here but we have got half an inch or so.
Outside thermometer is reading -2.2 with the lowest having been -3.3. Hopefully the little heater I've got in the cold frame has kept it warm enough in there for the plants. Not going to open the lid yet though - if it has there's no point in losing what heat there is in there.

I see on the sports news that they've even got it outside Barcelona - F1 testing is being affected, not surprisingly.
