You are making me feel very glad I have the sort of job that can be done in any town rather than the sort that can only be done in London. Sending hugs to all NP affected by the rise in commuter fares.
I do envy Londoners the frequency of their buses and tubes, though, and the whole "free public transport for school children" thing. There's no way for DD to get to school on public buses here, so I am stuck paying whatever the company running the dedicated school bus choose to charge, which is a little over £1k each year. Fortunately DS can walk to his school and I can drive or cycle.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
I heard Hatfield is nice?
Really? It's now become just another student town with nothing to highlight for anyone else. Most people I know who've lived there all their lives are now moving away, if they haven't done so already.
I had a colleague in London who moved from there 10 years ago to St. Albans. It worked out more expensive then, but she wanted to move out of the big city.
My own move was more drastic. 200 miles north. Best thing I have ever done.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
I like St. Albans.
The older part anyway. Don't know the rest of it!(I just lurve spiders!)

Snap, we have a one train an hour service that is regularly interupted by a late running freight train or the first to be cancelled when there is a shortage of trains. Buses are more frequent where we live in our village as all of them come through on the way to the next big town but for my parents, there is one an hour.
We also have to pay for transport for the children here too, at Joe's college it works out at just under 1k a year, luckily he received a bursary to cover the cost of his.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

I am surprised as they are quite big towns that places like Watford and Uxbridge are missing. I guess it is outside of M25 only. I think Stevenage is the cheapest place in Herts to live. If I couldn't afford to live here and had to go further out, I'd probably pick Bedford, as it is nicer. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Some of the inhabitants of Bedford are a bit dodgy though! Train fares have gone up too.
Lived in Uxbridge for a few years -probably didn't help that they weren't happy years for other reasons but I think it's a horrible place - soulless.
Happy New Year NP! Hope it brings good times and things to you all
I'm doing OK. Still working full time and don't really look too ill (more like I've got terrible ideas about eyebrows and hairstyles!). I got through chemo relatively easily - no horrendous side effects. In fact I think my social life and levels of mischief increasedSurgery is likely to be next, but maybe not for a few months. Currently trying to adjust to living with this and being aware of possible changes but not paranoid, and also working out how far ahead I can plan things eg travel in.
