I didn't bother trying to stay awake!
Although the fireworks did wake me up temporarily. Now what time would that have been?.
Let's hope it's a good year for everyone!
(And would someone please shut that Nostradamus up?)(I just lurve spiders!)

Happy New Year to one and all.I didn't bother trying to stay awake!
Me neither. Usual time for me.Although the fireworks did wake me up temporarily. Now what time would that have been?.
Ooh, about 21:00 for four hours, perchance? :rotfl:
That's what I like about being out in the sticks, not too many fireworks even on November 5th0 -

Funnily enough, there wasn't much in advance of the witching hour.
A couple of bangs around 7 and 8pm, and then nothing until I was woken by very loud fireworks at midnight.
They were so loud, I reckon they must have been in a neighbouring garden. Didn't stop me getting back to sleep, though.
I've noticed that over the last couple of years, fireworks have been a lot less intrusive than they used to be, even around November 5th. They haven't been starting days before and finishing days afterwards, so maybe most people are going to organised displays, rather than buying their own, especially as they are very expensive.(I just lurve spiders!)

We've got a huge windy/wet storm moving across the south coast this morning, there's just been a deluge of rain. It won't clear until this afternoon.
The news is telling me there's an "annual New Year's Day parade" in London... never heard of that before. Wonder how long that's been going on then.
EDIT: Ah, started in 1987, with a different name.

I thought it was still called the original name :embarasse0 -
I’m tempted to set off fireworks at 7AM, as a protest.
Happy new year everyone.
Thinking of Nikki, too.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
I believe there are significant findings that social isolation is negatively correlated with longevity.
Link to quote
That’s definitely my understanding. The US Society of Actuaries studied mortality in retirement, and
“We found that 12 risk factors were reported on in the literature, and we'll report on them in alphabetical order. The first one is age, then gender, race and ethnicity, education, income, marital status, occupation, religion, health behaviors, smoking, alcohol and obesity.”
Most of those are just the usual suspects, but religion is surprising. It turns out that being religious leads to more social interaction in old age.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

No, I hadn't heard of it either, despite having lived and worked in London for several years!
Even when it was called the Lord Mayor of Westminster's Parade, I hadn't heard of it, or of the Lord Mayor of Westminster!
I'd only ever heard of the The Lord Mayor's (of London) show, which is held in November.
Strange.(I just lurve spiders!)

Strange.
We've never been to the Lord Mayor's Show, but we did watch the new year's day parade about fifteen years ago. My recollection is that it was really freezing cold, and there were lots of school marching bands from the USA dressed for a Florida summer. It's a wonder there weren't mass casualties. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
