I just did that thing where I was thinking and leaving my bedroom, stepped down onto the first stair and my mind went in a spin as I wasn't concentrating on what I was doing ... so I thought I was falling and reached out for the wall - and pulled my shoulder muscle.

That'll teach me to try to think and walk at the same time! I'm not a multi-tasker and struggle to walk + do anything else. :( I should've been concentrating and thinking about where I was going!

Reminds me of those horrid 'falling' moments when you're sleepy, and then you jerk awake.

    There's a name for them...... can't remember..........

C/o google........ hypnagogic jerk. Also known as hypnic jerks.

"Researchers are also unsure why hypnic jerks occur, but a few theories exist.

.....One hypothesis says that hypnagogic jerks are a natural part of the body's transition from alertness to sleep, and occur when nerves "misfire" during the process.

.....Another popular idea takes a more evolutionary approach to hypnic jerks, explaining that the spasms are an ancient primate reflex to the relaxation of muscles during the onset of sleep — the brain essentially misinterprets the relaxation as a sign that the sleeping primate is falling out of a tree, and causes the muscles to quickly react."

The bolded bit makes perfect sense to me, as that's the sort of sensation that is felt.

I must have spent the best part of two hours holding on the phone today. Everything that needs sorting out requires a phone call just to make sure I'm doing things using the correct procedure.

30 mins holding to District Council - after 10 mins holding went from no1 in queue to no 9... grrrr
25 mins holding to Post Office Card Accounts, actually longer as their phones were playing up.
    20 mins to DWP
    5 mins to docs
20 mins to credit card provider
15 mins to a different part of DWP with a different number

Sooooooo slow. Would much rather have been on here.

    ....

That's exactly the sensation. That "grab anything" split second the body does automatically

Ah... I remember in the olden days there used to be "people with jobs" that answered phones - and - I kid you not - they DEALT with your enquiry while you were on the phone!

Sue I was thinking of you and the boys earlier. How are you all? I hope your chest is getting better :)

Not too bad thanks, chest is recovering but I still feel absolutely exhausted.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I get them..a lot, including when awake. Weirdly I found when I was on the steroids with my pneumonia (it made my asthma reactivate), they disappeared! It was so strange, for 5 days I was relatively pain free, the nerve pain settled and my tremors, ministry of funny walks and jerks were absent. I only noticed it because I walked up the stairs normally one night, I haven't walked up the stairs normally or easily for about 6 years!

Unfortunately, the dose of steroids I was on would not be suitable to be taken long term and it had other, not quite so nice side effects which I am still struggling with now.

My hair lady is coming in under half an hour, and I just want to go to sleep. :(
