I flew home this morning. It was pretty windy landing at Gatwick and I was worried that it could be diverted, but was better than expected. I once landed on a smaller A318 in a storm at Heathrow, which was like being on a yoyo. This was nowhere near as scary. Then train to St Albans, taxi home, and the minute we walked through the door the wind picked up outside. Timing....

    A318? Heathrow?

That'll be either TAROM or a diverted City flight, which to the best of my knowledge usually diverts into Gatwick (although has gone into Heathrow a few times).

Good to hear you had a good flight :)

The winds have been quite nasty up here this morning, although I have to go out shortly and I'm weirdly undeterred.

I've been robbed! Some shop keeper has passed me an old pound coin in my change. B4st4rd.

Person who served me in a takeaway last night gave me one. Fortunately I noticed and asked her to swap it!

You can still pay them in at most banks until further notice. And the British Legion have said they'll accept them for buying poppies.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

It’s interesting that they still work as money, even though they are not supposed to!
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

The only thing that has changed with the old pound coin is that it has ceased to become 'legal tender'. (Oh, and that it won't work in machines.)

People make too much fuss about legal tender, it doesn't really matter that much. Bank notes, whether they are issued by the BoE or a Scottish bank are not legal tender in Scotland, only coins. But I'd bet that retailers in Scotland happily accept them.

My local branch of HSBC has apparently not been giving them out for months.

They actually gave me an HSBC-branded token which is on my car keys at the moment, although will probably be of less use once the final trolleys are done.

You withdraw that much cash that you need a trolley to take it away?

I'm not sure they'd let me :rotfl:

No, I required an old £1 coin for a supermarket as I'd had to give the one I had to someone and got a new one back.
