Well, they probably mix it with some secret formula thing that renders it waterproof! :p

Well, you won't be able to go to The Angel, Islington (£100 on the Monopoly board), coz it's now a Co-op bank.
There is a Wetherspoons called The Angel next door, but it wouldn't be the same :rotfl:

    How dare they! :(

Well, it hasn't been somewhere you could eat or drink since 1959.

The present building was a pub/inn/hotel from 1903 to 1921, then a Lyons restaurant (technically not a standard Lyons Corner House) until 1959 - it was during that time that the designer of the UK version of the game, whilst taking tea there, decided to include it as the only location on the board named after a building.

If you've got the time, there's a really funny thread going on at the mo in DT about the discussions re. changing the organ donor default from active opt-in to active opt-out.

Take your popcorn and sweetie-bag with you! :D;)

NP may be familiar with Lloyd Loom laundry baskets. I have been tasked with repainting one (for someone else), and would welcome advice about how to go about it.

The basket in question is extremely old, very shabby, and not terribly clean - nothing truly nasty, but just the accumulation of dirt over decades on a surface that is hard to clean. It is currently pink - where the paint hasn't rubbed off. Lloyd Loom stuff is made of fibres that have a steel centre and compressed paper coating. In some places not only the paint but also the paper has been rubbed off, exposing the metal, which has blackened with some kind of tarnish/rust. I don't know whether it was pink when bought or has been painted pink by a previous owner, but it has certainly been pink for at least 50 years. Its current owner wants it to be a neutral sort of straw colour, and to look clean and presentable.

So, what kind of paint should I use, and how do I prepare the surface? Or where should I go looking for further information?

    Thanks. :)

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I, too, have a pink one. And a green one.

To be honest, iIrc, pink was one of the original colours, along with a shade of green, both very typical of the Art Deco period.

Personally, I think it would be a real shame to 'modernise' it. :(

I didn't much care for the pink when I first got mine, but it is an unusual corner shape, which was why I bought it.

However, even though I am so not a 'pink' person, it has grown on me, inasmuch as the colour is of its period. I had intended to repaint it, never got round to it, and am now very glad I didn't.

Repainting it could affect its value, too.

Thanks. I have two of the quarter circle corner ones myself - do you have a quarter circle one or one of the quarter-octogon ones or something else? One of mine is about the same colour as this one. I got that one in a second hand shop a few years ago. My other one is the same shape and nearly, but not quite, the same height, and I think it was originally metallic gold colour but is now a bit faded. I had that one in my bedroom as a child and retrieved from my parents' house when I got the other one. They go next to each other to make a semicircle in my house, so they're on a straight wall rather than in a corner.

I don't think he cares about the value, and he's not trying to modernise it to make it look up to date; he just wants it to look less grotty. I thought of trying to spray his in the same colour as the one I linked to in the previous paragraph. His does look pretty dreadful at present - much worse than either of mine, which are both quite presentable. I'll post a pic "elsewhere" shortly.

Edit: PostImages site doesn't seem to be working. :( Will try again later.

Edit again: here's a Lloyd Loom chair that really shouldn't have been repainted like that! :rotfl:

If you search for 'Rocca di Papa' in London on trip advisor, it then gives you the option to search other nearby restaurants on a map as well.

I'm going to London on Saturday to go to a concert in the evening. Thinking of spending the day (afternoon at least) at the V&A - if so I might well go here for lunch or dinner. Thanks Doozergirl! :)
