Going to see a show in Hammersmith Friday.

Where is a stop on the subway route from Liverpool St Station with plenty of restaurants and atmosphere? Spitalfields or Liv St immediate area was my first thought, eat there then get the subway onto Hammersmith afterwards.

I dislike soulless places (as an example went we went to Wembley the restaurants in the Mall there - very depressing and all chain places)

I rarely go to London so am clueless.

Another thought was Islington High St as I recall many restaurants one can chose from.

I fyou're on the Hammersmith and City line you could pop out of Ladbroke Grove station and get Portobello road area pretty quickly. This site has all the shops and restaurants around there.

Though I suspect it is all a bit staged, so they know who has the decent business plans before they start the series.

i think that is absolutely the case.

I'm sure they already know who they want to win, too.

    Same with the talent shows.

    It's all totally staged!

That's why it all quickly gets quite boring. I watched a bit of tonight's programme, and just got cheesed off with the same old tired format; the same old 'mistakes' being made. Yawn.

South Kensington, around the station has a lot of restaurants and more of a local feel. There's plenty of chains and independents to choose from, and there's a square of sorts behind the station where people sit outside. There's an independent Italian called Rocca on the Old Brompton Road that is unbelievable value for Money. Less than £10 for a main course containing plenty of seafood. I've taken lots of people there and get through a fair few bottles of their pink fizz. You just go and queue up at the door, doesn't take long to get a seat if there is a queue.

Local London is the absolute best.

Is this convenient in terms of Liverpool to Hammersmith? I am about to start looking at the Tube maps online so I know what I'm doing*

It's just me an my eldest Son for a treat so I want to go somewhere with a good choice of restaurants and not too close to the venue (I dislike mega busy restaurants where the theatre crowd all at once descend, hence not wanting to eat in Hammersmith)

*EDIT> so I think I will take the Central then Piccadilly lines, meaning S Ken is en-route. Now to establish how close S Ken tube is to restaurants - v close I would guess

    Cheers

It said that Stansted airport is the default airport in case of a terrorist attack. I bet they're thrilled to know that, even though it makes perfect sense, strategically.

My Dad, God rest his soul, was part of the technical team at the MOD responsible for designing the tech developed for storming a plane, this was from about 1979.
Things like magnetic listening devices that could be attached to the fuselage to ascertain where enemy combatants were.

Also invisible paint sprayed atop 'Paddy's' (sorry, that was the term they all used back then in the squad) car so they could track him from way above using helicopters.

He was forever at Stansted & also Hereford with the SAS - coming home with photos (his core competence was photography) of them with ladders extended above flat bed Land rovers screeching to a halt at buildings for quick insertion.

Used to come home and give us these futuristic night vision goggles to run round with - I can safely say not many kids would have experienced that back then!

    !

    Invisible paint?

Did it show up under infrared or ultraviolet or something?

And are you talking about the IRA days?

    Sorry to be dense.

I'm not arguing that it is entertainment for a real recruitment process.

However it claims to mimic the business world yet in the business world there is no way you could consider selecting, sorting or grouping applicants by gender and given the BBC tends to have a very strong focus on differential treatment of the sexes it just seems completely at odds with their normal approach to have a 'boys' team and a 'girls' team.

    Contact lenses

We can not afford £40 per month for DD1 to have contacts but she is finding glasses a real problem in sports, especially football. I seem to remember a NP mentioned a scheme whereby you got all the set up for contacts and 1 pair of glasses a year for a fixed fee then paid for lenses on an as you used them basis that worked out quite cheaply if you did not use that many sets of lenses. Can anyone remember this?
    I think....

I must admit that that has always bugged me. The initial division should be totally arbitrary ..... Alphabetical order or names out of a hat.

Even with Dragons' Den, it's amazing me that people still go and pitch giving ott valuations, when they know how that annoys the Dragons, and also go in without all the figures. (I don't mean forgetting the figures, but not knowing some in the first place).

Plus saying they've got orders from eg department stores, when all they've done is have talks or had some interest shown.

Plus saying they've got a patent when they haven't completed the process.

The ones I like are the serial inventors. Ok, they may be hopeless at business, but they keep coming up with ideas in their garden sheds! :) The great British eccentric is alive and well!

There have been a number of times when someone comes in with an idea that I think "Oh that's good! I'd love one of those! Just what I need to be able to............", and the Dragons all poo-poo it and say it's ridiculous and no one would ever want one of those/solving a problem that doesn't exist, etc. when it does exist for me! :D

(Can't think of an example at the moment, but it's happened a few times).

It also makes me wonder how people get their ideas made up into prototypes.

Several years ago, I had an idea for something, but didn't have a clue how to go about developing it! :D
Probably why I'm still not a millionaire! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
