I had a severely overweight doctor tell me I need to lose weight once. The younger me was tempted to say something, the me now is glad I didn't.

I have lost weight (I'm more than 20kg lighter than I was 7-8 years ago), however it's like stopping smoking; I'm not going to do it because someone tells me to do it, I'm going to do it because I want to.

Same with alcohol, although my consumption is down from about 1l spirits a week plus various meetings a week in pubs about 5 years ago, to about 1l every 2 weeks plus coke in pubs, which has probably helped significantly with the weight loss :)

ETA: Can I just clarify I meant cola (diet most the time actually), rather than cocaine.

20 Kgs is some serious weight loss, so well done for keeping it off.

In an effort to lose weight, I am currently more or less avoiding alcohol.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

PN, the taxi would, in all liklihood, have had locking doors while vehicle in motion. This is to prevent folk running off without paying but also stops kids on school run playing with the doors and falling out.
ETA additional needs children get taken to school by taxi round here.

Depends which district it's licensed in.

On the rare occasion I use a taxi I use either a London-style vehicle for local journeys or an independent driver with a Skoda who is licensed in a neighbouring district to where I live, both for reasons of discretion.

The London-style vehicle (which is an ex-London taxi) does have locking doors in the rear, operated on the footbrake when the vehicle is stopped, however I'm not sure the Skoda does. I've never asked and have never had the need to test it though.

I'll usually sit in the front of the Skoda due to it being driven by a friend, which may affect the situation too.

    Me too.:D

I've lost 1stone 2lbs since 1st May, and that includes nearly two weeks off which covered a long weekend away at a posh hotel and my birthday, which encompassed 5 meals out over about 7 days:o.

    Three rules:

Eat within a 6 hour timeframe
Really, really limit sugar (that doesn't mean fruit to me)
First two don't count when I'm out!

I found it's really a case of not trying to lose weight, while casually swapping stuff like Subways or fry ups for lunch for a tuna sandwich (which I'll be making in a minute). It's just happened gradually over time.

I'm quite fit generally though, which probably helps matters. Contrary to popular belief, I don't sit in an office eating biscuits all day.

I think the main issue of drinking too much (which I did for a long time) is working in an environment which is known to contain a lot of alcohol. Most have the luxury of not doing that. My last alcoholic drink was about 10 days ago, a single glass of Portuguese whisky.

Below was dinner yesterday, actually in the same place. I'd eaten for an early lunch with friends (actually, it started with one, 2 people joined us then another came soon after), and I will admit to not having a healthy lunch at all.

As Viva will say, I'm getting some practice in for Lisbon next year, which is a good enough justification in itself :D:cool:

    Congrats Bugs!

If the rules are working for you, that's great. I've gone down an alternative strategy, but it's a case of finding what's right for all of us rather than sticking to a 'one size fits all' strategy.

Stick a sandwich at the top of the plank, he'll try harder then ;)

Which will undoubtedly make no sense whatsoever once the associated post has been deleted :rotfl:

    Me.

It's been a long haul. I don't know how these foreign dental services operate, doing everything in a few days. here they wait until the implant has successfully bed itself into the jaw bone before working on the actual tooth part.
