You posted a pic of a Portuguese custard tart, that's cruel:p.

I've never understood that either. One of our drivers was going to have implants, took forever and then they decided his jaw didn't have enough 'bone' or some such. Lot of palaver.

It is a different world and one I really cannot get my head around. It's very sad the way in which some people live.

I used to have a couple of houses, my old house when I moved in with Mr Bugs and a small terrace. My old house had OKish tenants, but they re-painted the living room and where they'd painted the windowsill the bit behind the curtains they hadn't done, so I had the old white gloss at either end with the centre painted a peculair shade of baby blue. Then they painted round a bookcase...bizarre! The terrace I rented to an older lady, who then left without telling me and with a flipping big leak in the back bedroom....great. Tenants, grrrr.

I remember reading on a forum about someone who'd bought a new carpet for the bedroom and her husband said there was no need to pay a carpet fitter, he was perfectly capable of doing it himself.
He cut out a big hole in the carpet so that it fitted round the bed

ETA Pyxis, definitely a pic of a Portuguese custard tart, as CK mentioned Lisbon (i.e next year's Eurovision SongContest venue) :)

Many years ago my friend's mum went out and bought a new carpet. This was back in the days when a new carpet was a MASSIVE event - you probably only bought 1-2 new carpets in your entire life. She had a long living room, 22'x11'. Her mum worked as a bedmaker at the colleges; her dad much much older/retired and slightly invalided - he would sit in the living room and "make switches" - piecework/work from home. The switches were to turn on electrical circuits, such as on a car dashboard or radio unit. It was a council house and they didn't have money to splash about.

So, having brought up her family etc, her mum decided to save up and really treat herself...to a new carpet.

It arrived when she was at work and was fitted. Husband signed the chit. When she came home... it was the wrong carpet :(
    What did she do!

She had to live with it ....but George was never allowed to forget it.

I wonder how different it was from the correct one.

    Random question ....

How big is your living room/space (excluding the kitchen end bit if you're open plan)? How much floorspace do you actually have in your 1-3 living rooms?

I'm kind of trying to gauge whether mine's large/small/average
On paper I'd say mine is currently "large" .... so what've you got?

Random question .... my living room doesn't look very big to me .... but it's full of mismatched furniture bits and a general detritus of clutter and general items that I might/sometimes use daily (e.g. 3 pairs of shoes and some wellies, my shopping bags, the last 6 books I held in my hand, correspondence I need to deal with) .... you know ....the "homely clutter" of somebody who doesn't "tidy up" as nothing's actually got a "proper place" for it to live in.... might as well leave things out as continually faff around tucking everything away in its spot.

I'm kind of trying to gauge whether mine's large/small/average .... and, once I've knocked a wall down, whether it'll be large/small/average.

On paper I'd say mine is currently "large" and will become "massive" ... so what've you got?

    Lounge is about 20 x 13 feet. Dining room is separate, that's about 15 x 12.

Study is small, but it keeps the paperwork out of the other rooms.

We have a lounge diner, but it is more for lounging than dining. The dining bit is in practice tiny. The room is a little under 19 foot long, by 15ft wide. It also has the staircase in it. Also downstairs are the kitchen, cloakroom, toilet and a small hallway. The house itself is three bedrooms, for indication of size.

Just popped into Aldi on my way home, bought a cucumber, butter and 2 bottles of Xero (45p cola) stuff.

Got a few funny looks from the lady at the checkout until I explained I did a full shop on Monday and the fridge is full. Given me a good (if weird) laugh for the day :D:D

We have a kitchen/dining room running alongside the hall at the front with a living room at the back.

Not the most conventional layout, but does the job and actually when you're in the house makes a lot of sense.

Not sure on sizes, but the front is a lot longer than the back, while the back is wider. The house is the width of 2 and a bit cars, so just over 4m :)

She probably thought that if you're going to butter up that cucumber for some "single man time out" ...you might've wished to have chosen something a little alcoholic :)

    :eek::eek::eek:

    I hadn't thought of that.

Nothing that exciting, just fancy a tuna and cucumber sandwich for lunch tomorrow and don't have a lot of butter left.

Still :eek::eek: at the thought of that.

    Mine is currently 14' x 12'.
It will end up 14' x 20' (8' is currently wasted on a loo & hallway). And there'll be a whole new bit that's got flexible names as to what the heck it is/for.

So it moves from being a decent size lounge to having room for a dining table.

We live in the kitchen most of the time. The end bit of it has a two seater settee and a dining table for 4-6 with 4 chairs. Also, the smallest TV with the least powered virgin box.
