Very quiet on here today! Is everyone busy gardening? I did a small amount of weeding so I'm sure that counts.

i hope you're ok today Pastures, not too sore.

I've been gardening Ivyleaf. 5 hours and I'm now trying to tell myself that my back doesn't hurt. I've repotted tomatoes and dug a new flower bed which is now looking really pretty with plants from the greenhouse.
Spend less now, work less later.

Daughter arrived back from caravan with Grandson3 and Grandaughter1, took hire car back to Speke leaving OH in charge of Grandkids. I went down and sat on recliner in garden and watched them being pushed around in wheelbarrow, alternated with playing football. :)

SiL arrived having walked along the river from Pier Head more or less, at much same time Daughter got back from Speke. Games of hide and seek added to the previous ones, along with climb all over Dad (who they hadn't seen for a week). :rotfl:

In other news I got a letter from DWP this morning saying Tribunal had got dates wrong so they were writing to them  but in the meantime they couldn't pay me what they owe, or my uplifted PIP. :( I imagine they will take this as the start of their 28 days to ask for the Tribunal's Statement of Reasons so they can take it all off me again. I'm not an optimist when it comes to dealing with DWP. Suspect whatever happens I won't get a car before Christmas. :(

Am knackered and back in bed now. Had to come in as it started to rain.

I am doing an experiment on whether playing a musical instrument relieves nerve pain. How I got the nerve pain is another story. (No is it nothing to do with teeth) I know about depression and playing music but don't know anything about whether it works with nerve pain. As luck (?) would have it I have now got pain so bad that it woke me up this morning when the pain killers wore off. I am not taking pain killers at the moment because that would defeat the experiment. I will let you know how I get on.

I was - picking loads of strawberries and raspberries, a few peas of two varieties and a few broad beans.

Then I did some weeding in the front garden - not as much as I have been used to having to do, partly because my ground cover plantings are spreading nicely and crowding out the weeds in some areas whilst the weed barrier membrane I hid under the compost elsewhere is doing its job very nicely.

I've also been giving more thought to my planned semi-raised beds with veggiemesh covers for the veggie patch. Unfortunately, whilst I planned for carrot root fly and cabbage white butterflies with appropriate nets, I hadn't heard of cabbage root fly until it was too late :-(

Also, the soil isn't overly good so, in time for next season, I plan to make enclosed beds, up to 12" above the surrounding soil and up to 18" dug out below then line the holes with weed barrier membrane to keep out the horse tail weeds and refill the bed with a mixture of the soil that came out, farmyard manure and compost. Then I'll make netting frames to surround the lot 3 feet high with lifting front and top panels so that I can get in when I want but, hopefully, the pests won't.

I'm also going to try a method called square foot gardening in some beds, where you plant everything in foot squares instead of rows and mix things up - some people report that it seems to reduce the effect of pests because they either don't like what's been put next to stuff they do or can't find what they like because it's not all in one block.

    Hope you're ok Pastures.
I've just been sitting inside really. Could've cut the grass.... didn't fancy it, so didn't. :)

Please DQ below, as it will be gone soon.

Speaking of gardening, I had someone in to do the back garden today (doesn't need too much, just general tidying up).

CK we have a cleaner who has anxiety issues and gets panic attacks on the bus. So, she only turns up half the time, which is obviously a gigantic PITA. But we keep her on because we know that she needs the money and can't help the issues she has.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I understand that, and I feel she's someone who deserves a chance.

I'm also not willing to have the mick taken and that's the main issue here.

I suggest you tell her what your perception of her current service is; and what you want in the future.

Unless she gets feedback that informs her what needs to improve, she will think she is doing Ok, but will quickly lose customers get a poor reputation and her fledgling business will fail.

If she does not meet your expectations thereafter you have been fair and given her a chance. I would then let her go.

That's the trouble with light mornings. You get up, make a coffee, walk round the garden, come back inside, sit down, look at the clock ..... blimey, if I'd known it was only 4.30 I'd have not done all that!

    :)
