PasturesNew wrote: »This morning's news.... chess. They're saying kids should learn chess (at school) to help with maths.
Chess was another thing "for the better off". I tried to join a chess group once as I "thought I'd like that"..... but it was a chess club for people who play it.
I got a small book out from the library, but it was alien and I was confused/lost.... so never bothered again.
So, if you've never seen chess - and have only seen plastic chess pieces when they came packaged with a cheap draughts board - how do you learn it when you're sitting there alone and clueless?
Chess was always "a bit posh".
Both my kids did chess at primary school. Someone at school must have taught them how - I certainly didn't.Found someone to drive me up to pack Josh's things up and get it back here. It might be that either myself or Josh will have to do the return journey on the train due to the smaller car size but it's hugely better than what I was faced with.
I'm actually thinking it might be better for me to do the return journey by train, that way Josh will be on hand to unload his kit safely when back here rather than me and my parents trying to do it and possibly damaging something....I'll take a good book and just read, I'm happy on a train and it will probably be a lot more relaxing than the drive back and unpacking the car!
Glad you found someone. Sending Josh with the kit and yourself on the train sounds like a good idea. Hope it all works out OK.Me.
It's been a long haul. I don't know how these foreign dental services operate, doing everything in a few days. here they wait until the implant has successfully bed itself into the jaw bone before working on the actual tooth part.
Hope it's all worth it once it's finished.
My dentist offered me an extraction as an "easier" alternative to a root canal. I am so glad I opted for the root canal and therefore still have a whole mouthful of attached teeth rather than one removable one. It made me feel that if it comes to it in the future, I'd want implants. So that makes me interested in how it goes for you.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
I must teach my kids chess some time - I was OK at it but found the level of concentration required 'did my head in' - there were much better things to do at weekends involving tennis rackets and girlsI think....0

Well you know the old question? How many men does it take to clean a toilet? None men don't clean toilets. Things have changed but I still think that there are more males who don't notice a bit of grub than there are females? I don't think the second one was a fair comparison. They should have made the girl friend stay there for the week and then asked her at the end.0

We rented out our house while renting in an area we wanted to move to. We'd like to think we were good landlords and good tenants at the same time. A weird side effect of it was we managed to live in a much better house than we could imagine we could afford to buy.
It's a kind of London effect, rentals don't have the same range of prices as elsewhere IYSWIM. We managed to rent out our 3 bed 2 reception mid-terrace with a bathroom and w.c and for very little more, rent a much more spacious 4-bed 2 reception with 3 bathrooms and a w.c in a gated road. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
Good landlords certainly exist. Back in the day, I had some. Several, over the years, in fact.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? I also watched that programme.
To continue PN's commentary.
LL did up communal areas, painted, repaired garden and fitted sensor lights outside. Place looks a lot better and tenant happy.
The first property, they've given her a 2 year tenancy and offered to help with electric bills if she struggles. makes you wonder if they would have done that without cameras filming.
Get the impression that their eyes have been opened.

Pastures, I'm not sure why it has to be on top of the bin in order to escape. If it can't fly from the ground, how will being on the bin make it any better?
Also, you could always call the RSPCA.Can't remember, is it you or your DH who is being implanted SC?
