I finally put the old phone number onto the camera phone in about August last year as I was trying to get round to things I'd meant to do but that'd seemed a bit tricky/hard.
Somebody texted me on the new phone .... and I have absolutely no idea who it is (but they must know me).... and I responded... and, since then, we've exchanged 3-4 texts. Trouble is, I've never had the b4lls to simply type "who are you?"
I'd just type back with a message "there's a problem with my phone /software and I can't tell who you are".:)There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Yup. "I've got a new phone. Who is this please?" To the next message. It's true. They'll assume the phone/problem was new since their last message, so all's good.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I'm anxious about the dentist too, and particularly hate our local dentist and have procrastinated going elsewhere for far too long, but I was able to book an appointment online with a new dentist this week and it's a huge relief. I cried with relief when I was there because she was so lovely.
Oh I feel for you, Doozergirl! I had a butcher for years, but he was close to home. Then he left and I got a Lovely Lady Dentist. Then she left to have a baby.
But I hit really lucky with my next one - he's just fantastic, and his specialism is rebuilding teeth (sorry, can't think of the proper technical name for it). My teeth are definitely gradually getting there now, plus he's incredibly gentle and ALWAYS makes sure I have sufficient pain relief. Such a relief to have a dentist you can trust! :j0 -

It's such an intimate thing, you want someone to feel like they actually care about you.
In hindsight, I can see that the previous dentist's business plan is all about churning through their patients as fast as possible.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Re. smartphones......
I recently was forced to get a smartphone, because my old Nokia button phone's battery was on the way out, and given that my primary reason for having a mobile was security while driving, etc., (being able to call the AA in the middle of nowhere), I had to get a new one.
I didn't have an in-car charger for the old Nokia non-smart one.
Anyway, I got an iPhone. (I am an Apple person. Only ever had Apple computers, iPads, etc., never had a PC, etc. etc.)
Well. I hadn't realised that:
a) My iPads would synch with the iPhone, so that the iPhone effectively became a mini-iPad, with all the emails, etc.
(No wonder people are hooked to them 24/7).
b) Sending texts on a smartphone was, despite the 'unlimited free texts' part of the contract, not that simple, inasmuch as now my 'free texts' were limited to 160 characters each, after which they turned into MSM and cost a lot. !!!!!!?
But not if I'm sending an iMessage. (Apple). But how do I know if I'm sending an iMessage or a very expensive MSM text?
Am very fed up. On the old Nokia button phone, I just sent texts. End of. If they got too long, (very rare), they just stopped typing.
Me velly confoosed.
c) I couldn't transfer my photos from the old Nokia button phone to the new iPhone, despite Bluetooth on the iPhone he say you are connected but Bluetooth on the Nokia he say no connection.
d) I can't apparently use my custom call ringtone on the new phone. Can't find a way to use my recording of it to make it a ringtone.
e) I keep ringing people my mistake, because I obviously touch things I shouldn't.
Edit.
I was also pi55ed off that, having been with O2 (or its predecessors) since I first got a mobile phone in 1992, they weren't a bit bothered about the fact that I was leaving them to go with another provider.
I mean, I know loyalty counts for zilch these days, but it was still like a kick in the teeth.(I just lurve spiders!)

Don't the speech bubbles come up a different colour if it's an iMessage (blue instead of green)?
After years of an Android phone I bit the bullet and got an iPhone- the smallest phone I could get. I'm still not as into phones as everybody else seems to be.There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
I find phone screens too small to see. The keypad is too small to type on without many mistakes/corrections.
But .... the main thing is that I can't see anything on the screen whatsoever outside in daylight, or anywhere "lit". Nothing. Can't tell who is calling/texting, or anything.0 -
Pyxis Welcome back, good to see you here again
Sorry peeps, I know Im not a regular to this thread
PN McDs to smart screen ordering instore now - no interaction whatsoever apart from a Thankyou as some kindly member of staff brings your tray of food to the table
Just go in, find a screen, click start and start browsing the menu, just tap on what you want and hit add to order. You can order just a veggie burger, or go for the meal which means chips and a drink included in the price. You then get to decide on size - med or large fries and what drink you want. Once you have everything you want added to your order, there's great big plastic numbers hung to the side of the screen, you take on, enter the number to your order, hit pay, tap your card and head to an empty table of choice, stopping off to get sugar, stirrers, ketchup - whatever. Place the big number on the table and the staff member comes finds you. Even I use McDs now this system has been introduced
Wetherspoons have an app so that all you have to do is go in and find a table and order and pay with the app. Food and drink straight to the table, no queuing or getting flustered, plenty of time to go through the menu to get what you want without the fear of holding people up and their tea and coffee is self service
Im sure there are more self ordering places on the mainland ( we are a bit behind here) I have heard of many a place where you are given an iPad instead of a menu
Im with Doozergirl with the phone anxiety. I had made all of 30 phone calls last year. I use text or messenger. Tonight has been a nightmare for me, my FB has been hacked and my phone hasn't stopped ringing with friends telling me cos they have received messages asking for money to pay a bill. Ive been so stressed out by it Ive managed to lock myself out of FB for the next 24hrs so I can't change passwords or anything, and Im. so frazzled sleep won't be easy0 -
Pyxis,
A) you can stop that happening. I don’t have my emails appear on my iPad by choice.straightforward texts over 160 characters get sent as 2 (or more) texts. It’s pictures you have to be careful with, as they go as iMessages or MMS. Even with iPhones you have to be careful as they occasionally go as MMS.
C) there must be a way via google or some other host.

Screen darkness should be adjustable in settings.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
