Just popping in to say sorry I've been missing in action for so long. I've had loads and loads of illness and other mega-problems, all too long and involved to explain, and so just haven't felt up to posting or even logging on.

Health and other stuff is still ongoing, so I shan't be around much for now.

I had already subscribed to having this thread's posts sent by email, though, so I have kept up with the trials and tribulations of the Nice People, even if only in a peculiar format.

I see that this website is about to move into a new home, even if Pastures isn't. ☹️☹️
I suppose that means it's bye-bye to the lovely green skin.

By the way, a word of advice. Fresh blackberries do not go well with gooseberry compôte.

I know, because I just had some, and had to force myself to eat it up so as to get the vitamins, etc.

Pyxis it's good to see you - we've been worried about you, and sounds as if it was with good reason! Sending gentle ((HUGS)), get-well wishes, and wishes for the other stuff to be sorted too. I'll light a candle for you xx

Pyxis, I am so sorry to hear that you have been so ill, and I am sure that we all wish you a full and rapid recovery. You have been missed.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Pyxis, I've been off a lot too recently, due to generally being busy, mainly work things I can't go into for contractual or legal reasons at the moment.

I hope you're better soon and the problems sort themselves out :)

It's maybe the way I wrote it :)

It's mostly, I believe (will tap walls tomorrow), removing/putting up a few stud walls.... laying out the ensuite in a square instead of a thin rectangle. Chuck on a couple of doors.
Lob in a bit of wide worktop on top of some bases to make a breakfast bar....
Lob the gas boiler into the garage.
... tidy up and splash paint about.
Put down a bit of flooring.

Empty house, under cover garage and lean to adjacent to back door, so room to work in all weathers...

I'm not especially bothered about a kitchen, as such.... I don't really use them. I just need room for some tabletop gadgets, couple of cupboards for tinned food and a plughole for the F/F. A "finished kitchen" which'd be reusing existing cabinets in any case.... isn't required.

I guess the basics are: sort out the two bedrooms/reshape the en-suite and chuck in new fittings. Move that gas boiler.

IMHO a gas boiler should never be in a roof... you simply cannot ever get to it - and I do like to flash my eyes across it and under it every time I pass, to check for red lights, steam and leaks. :)

If I go for it ... and £X ... it might be that, closer to the time, I realise I've a few extra quid. I am not 100% sure how much I've got to be honest as all my figures are very close to the "budget".

I can probably pull off £300k. I'd know not to offer £305k for a house as I really don't think I've got that much... but how much I have, between, say, £295k and £305k I don't actually know....

I'm kind of relying on buying a house "under budget", then moving in and having all my extra cash in one spot, so I can absolutely, finally, know what I've got. I find modern/online banking very complex to be honest. I can spend half a day getting logged on and making a spreadsheet and knowing what I have.... but then I completely forget how much it is, or where. And then I spend some ... and I've no idea any more.

You won't like it but there's an app for that now.

There's one called Money Dashboard that has some government link that allows you to see all of your accounts at once and aggregate the balance.

You can analyse of all your expenditure and income and it will anticipate your balance through the month.

But mainly, it aggregates it all for you. You can do it on a computer or a smart phone. Perhaps not all banks are added yet, but all of mine are.

    The house sounds positive.

Pastures is probably in the same position as I am of not liking the idea of it. Also, it's another password to remember.

I know there's money in the accounts, but actually checked my current account earlier and pleasantly found there was about 60% more in there than I thought.

This was celebrated by booking a work-related holiday (a week in my second favourite city in Europe with 2-3 days of that being business-related). A plan is now needed to try to grab a contract that isn't 'firm' with a company that has tried something similar differently and failed, because I'm sure we can add value doing it 'our way' as we wouldn't be tied to just using that company, but a mix of them and others to reach a much bigger market (sorry if that makes no sense, trying to not say exactly what as I don't want to be accused of advertising)

Unless pushing payments to the limit, there's very little point in knowing what you have to the penny IMO. Pastures doesn't sound like she's about to do this and even when I do add it up, I don't tend to include current accounts as the balances of these change constantly.

So nice to see you here, you have been missed. Not so nice to hear of your health problems, I hope they settle quickly.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Lots of excitement in the house tonight, middle son is going back to his uni town for just under a week tomorrow....it's the happiest he has been for months.

Youngest had a bad fall last weekend damaging his shoulder and getting quite a nasty gash on it too, he didn't tell me until Monday when he said he was going to the general. Around here, going to the general means going to our cottage hospital and so I thought he meant he was going to go to the hospital there, in fact he meant making an appointment at the GP clinic on campus.

He actually should have gone to A&E but we didn't do any familiarity training with the hospital and of course I am down here and he is up there, so he wouldn't (couldn't) go on his own as he doesn't know it whereas we did do the GP clinic familiarity prior to his starting (even if I did have to text him what needed to be said so he could just show them on his first couple of appointments!). In making the appointment for his shoulder he didn't tell them anything so they thought it was a routine check and gave him an appointment for today. Being the excellent non boy scout (he couldn't cope at Beavers let alone cubs or scouts), he read up on cleaning and dressing injuries and has been doing that ever since he did it and thankfully he has done a good job of it according to the GP today (but also got a mild telling off for not going to the hospital)

It's like having his hair cut, he won't have it done unless I am there as then I can talk to the people and tell them what he wants so he doesn't have to...he was rather long haired when he came home at Christmas :rotfl:

We do actually have some members who openly admit being not nice sometimes

    Hello :hello:

I am very nice until people start spamming on the Nice People Thread.

So, welcome, do you live in Hertfordshire? Do you like mushrooms? :)

I'm not suggesting it's for everyone but I seem to have accounts all over the place. It's one more password but can be one that is used much more often than just logging into separate accounts to see balances.

The idea of including current accounts/credit cards is that you can track your spending by categories (it will have a guess initially at what most spends are, if it's wrong or you want to be more specific, you set it and it learns), set monthly budgets for anything you want to control, and then see them as a whole.

So, if I'm utilising my credit card, I can aggregate spend with the current account and see how much exactly I've spent on groceries, travel, coffee, personal grooming or whatever.

It will also predict balances daily going forward based on regular expenditure, so will tell you if you're likely to run out of money before you do, but also help towards savings goals If you know where you want to be at the end of each month.

It's quite amazing and a very clever budgeting tool. It's certainly not just for people who push their spending to the limit each month. It's an at a glance picture of finances that can help save money without too much thought after teaching it.
