I've been following the TV series "Timeless" and although it's a scifi series it has opened my eyes about how quickly deeply and seriously society's ideas have changed over the last century. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0

This is rather like the Sufragette movement. At the time, they caused a lot of disruption, and there was a very mixed response. Looking back, most people now would say that women having the vote is A Good Thing.
Suffragists were the movement.
Suffragettes were the terrorists.
WW1 came along and women did "men's jobs", which was the biggest kick up the bum to move things forward.
Behind all that, it wasn't "votes for women" alone holding things up, the toffs never wanted working men to have a vote either.
So the suffragettes' actions are over-pushed in a way because it makes a more interesting story than the complete mix of social movement and changes 1900-1920.0 -
For climate change I'd like to see a quiz/score you can get based on your lifestyle and waste.
I bet I'd be so close to a 0 the system would think it was faulty....
In the main, in this country, if you don't buy anything, don't do anything, don't waste anything, don't go anywhere you're already contributing.... it's that middle class lot with their endless travelling and buying that're the biggest contributors to any score.

The only singer I can see mentioned (in an climate change way), is Ellie Goulding, actually a very well known singer, albeit not my cup of tea as it's not my genre (or age group come to think of it)
Climate change is concerning but the way this latest group have gone about things is not exactly the best way. However, there are a fair few younger members of society who may well listen to someone like Ellie (if she was indeed the singer you are talking about) and make changes in a less in your face, hold up your day, annoy everyone way.
That was the other thing I didn't like about her. She told lies to the young people she was talking to. She told them that it was the fault of previous generations that they (the young people) were buying the latest gadgets. I can honestly say that I have never forced anyone to buy the latest gadget.
So basically she told the young people that climate change was not their fault in being the biggest consumers of the latest gadgets and it was the fault of someone else. This its not my fault it is your fault or their fault seems to be the message that all these climate change people are putting out. It is all done so that they themselves can excuse their own actions and then not make any changes to their life style.
I am not worrying about climate change or pollution because with attitudes like that and vested interests of people looking for free publicity to sell "songs" that are manufactured using technology which isn't green either there is no chance that anyone will be able to do anything about it even if they wanted to.
There is basically no point in worrying about something you can't change all that does is make you feel bad. There is a good argument for these climate change people wanting to make you feel bad so that they can blame you and not take any personal responsibility.0 -

It's not me. I'm not a parent.
I've never told any of them to have, to consume, to use, to discard, to replace, to spend and buy and have. Not me. Their parents did that.0 -

Yes but the Sufragettes were not like these climate change people. The Sufragettes put themselves out and didn't blame other people including other women for the lack of votes for women.
The climate change people are not doing this to help other people they are doing it only to help themselves and their ego trips that is why they blame everyone else and don't do anything about their own lifestyles. In fact the only people I know who support them (all 3 of them) have done nothing to alter their own lifestyles to reduce their own carbon emissions. It is so much easier to blame someone else than to make your own life harder.0 -

I can blame the parents for buying the latest gadget for them when they were young children but I can only blame them if they are still doing it and attending climate change meetings at the same time. If as a young person who is attending climate change meetings and still buying the latest gadget then it is their own fault. Telling them that it is the fault of someone else gives them permission to go on buying these things that they don't need.
I think that the BBC reporters could do something useful and find out how many parents expect to buy and children expect to get a new mobile phone for Christmas. That would soon tell you who was worried about carbon emissions.
It would also tell you if it was worth having people fly all over the world to climate change meetings.0 -

OH and I was talking about the difference between our and our children's generations, as DS1 and DIL have just bought their first property.
Ours was a tiny cottage, filled with items friends and family were throwing away (30 years later, I still have never bought a sofa, table and chairs etc).
Whilst their property is a three bedroomed apartment in one of the most expensive places in the world, and the had an 'ID' interior designer to do the work. I have lost count of the number of countries they have been to this year for pleasure (he travels for work).
God help them if they lecture me about recycling or global warning!

I think it is about time the BBC licence fee was abolished.
I have now found out that yet again we have all paid for free advertising for a criminal political group. This is biased. They don't do it for any other criminal groups. I never see advertising in favour of burglars, shop lifters, drug dealers, fare dodgers or any other criminal activity that you can be arrested for.
Next stop broadcasting standards.
I can't stand biased reporting.
I really can't stand people who are "special" and blame everyone else for something that they themselves have contributed to but are too "special" to have to make changes to their lifestyles.
I also can't stand people who have enough spare time on their hand to make a positive difference to the lives of people who are less fortunate than they are but choose to spend it disrupting people's lives instead.0
