I think it is about time the BBC licence fee was abolished.

I have now found out that yet again we have all paid for free advertising for a criminal political group. This is biased. They don't do it for any other criminal groups. I never see advertising in favour of burglars, shop lifters, drug dealers, fare dodgers or any other criminal activity that you can be arrested for.

    Next stop broadcasting standards.

    I can't stand biased reporting.

I really can't stand people who are "special" and blame everyone else for something that they themselves have contributed to but are too "special" to have to make changes to their lifestyles.

I also can't stand people who have enough spare time on their hand to make a positive difference to the lives of people who are less fortunate than they are but choose to spend it disrupting people's lives instead.
At the risk of being told off, but this is the Nice People thread. We don't generally use it for ranting, slagging off others etc. There are other places on these boards for that (I understand there are, I don't use them).
OK to let off steam about things which are happening in your life sometimes, but several of your posts are general "rants" and I don't think they fit on this particular board.
Please others say if you disagree but I come here partly to get away from all that.

This is rather like the Sufragette movement. At the time, they caused a lot of disruption, and there was a very mixed response. Looking back, most people now would say that women having the vote is A Good Thing.

Not a NP discussion but I can see why people draw this comparison but day not think it is valid. We are not in this case talking about disenfranchisement but instead a minority deciding that their issue is more important than the laws enacted on behalf of the democratically involved majority. I am sure there are other groups who think their issue is also vital but in general they do not break the law to try and bring it about.
    I think....

There are two issues here, and they’re intertwined.

First, is climate change an issue that’s important?

Second, do people approve of Extinction Rebellion methods?

You can agree with one and not the other.

Bear in mind that ER is not a monolithic group, with a central organisation. It’s lots of little groups of people, each doing what they think is right. So, you might approve of some actions they take and not others.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

In other news .... no houses or similar have presented themselves for sale this week.... again.

I am coming to the conclusion "you might just have to give up waiting, you've given it a good wait/shot". I believe, if I waited long enough, one MIGHT come up for sale I liked/where I'd have preferred it, but I think the housing stock is too small to yield many in reality, within the timescale/budget I've got.

So I went shopping for chocolates and crisps and burgers.... and had a bit of a scoffathon.

A scoffathon sounds like it is needed, enjoy x

Agree...... it is not a thread to post comments that are deliberately provocative... these subjects can be discussed nicely :D

Adapting to a changing climate is important. Not building new houses on flood plains, not concreting over front gardens with surfaces that cause water to run off, not taking children to school in the car, turning down your central heating, wearing more clothes in the house especially natural fibres like wool that is important not "emergency end of the world" stuff with no content. That is not important.

Lying down in the middle of the road and having a tantrum like a 3 year old because you can't get your way or because you want to be on the telly or because you want the police to waste their time arresting you is nothing to do with climate change. It isn't anything to do with anything really.

So far I haven't approved of anything they have done because it has all been negative and unhelpful with all "emergency and end of the world stuff" and no content and no helpful suggestions. Complete waste of time.

As I said right at the beginning of this new thread I am not a nice person.

However on the brightside I think we are making progress in the local fireworks problem.

Where I live people detonate fireworks continously every night for about 1 month around this time of year. 2 of us in my local area have started discussions on nextdoor neighbour about this month of continous noise often going on into the early hours of the morning on non celebration days.

You can now buy quieter fireworks. There are rockets that give you all the colours but don't bang.

Sainsbury's supermarket has done the decent thing and stopped selling fireworks altogether.

A scoffathon sounds like a very good idea.

I can guarantee that when you stop looking for a house several will come up. It is like the watched pot that doesn't boil.

I find it very difficult to not be provocative when I find out that my money has been used to help criminal political organisations reach more people. It makes me very angry. It could instead have been used to improve the quality of life of disabled people or for animal welfare. It could have been used for some positive improvement in the UK rather than free advertising for criminals.

We don't have any choice about what our tv licence fee money is spent on but I don't think most people would be in favour of it being spent on advertising for minority groups of criminals. Why not minority groups of law abiding citizens?

We are all paying for these people to entertain themselves by making other people's lives a misery. We pay for the court cases, we pay for the police etc there are 1000s of better causes that that money could be spent on.

In other other news, I have spent the last week convalescing after a nee nah trip last Friday. Well, I say convalescing, I still went to work Saturday night (quite literally a few hours after being released), Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday but was sensible and swapped my Sunday shift. The sensible advice is normally to take two weeks off work after such an episode but that advice wasn't given because they saw the crutches and chair and automatically assumed I didn't work and I only found out later.

The cause? My chest didn't like a pesky cold I picked up and I had a major asthmatic episode. Still, it appears to be settling now, my peak flows were almost back to normal last night after a week of high dose steroids and maximum strength antibiotics although my chest is still quite, er, chesty (and that's nothing to do with the size!) and I am still absolutely exhausted.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
