Ooh yes, I have looked and dreamt about those.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    Two viewings were both duds.

1/ A pretty knocked about !!!!!!-hole. That was on top of the other issues... and the gloriously deep, deep, deep and very patterned artex ceilings :)

2/ I couldn't afford it anyway at the price he's asking. He's asking too much. He's asking the price of a 3-bed 1000 sq ft with loft conversion price for a 2-bed without a loft conversion. He "made me" go up in the loft "to look at the glorious views".... sorry, but having to poke a stick at the ceiling, to then unfurl a 3-part heavy monster ladder, then clamber up it ... to stand at a window and look at... well, nothing much really... isn't going to endear me to it. Plus, when I did go up there, the boiler's in the roof. I don't do boilers in the roof as you can't know what they're up to up there! His neighbour is selling a house for £20k more that's been extended back by 12' to give the additional space needed for a loft conversion + that house already has the loft converted. As I suspected, he's a dreamer :)

I have just been looking online at Buy a Gift and they have vouchers for the Northern Belle and often (currently) they have 24% off, which reduces the cost quite a bit.

There are always a lot of afternoon tea deals on groupon, most offer 2 for 1. Plenty of top LONDON Hotels on the list, though I don’t know if the savoy or ritz are on the list.

What makes me happy? Being made to feel special, something out of the norm, luxury (on a budget, I also hate style over substance and get excited about a good deal).

Who I would like to spend it with? Loved ones, so family. I don't have a significant other and my IRL friend circle isn't particularly large after the years of caring...ASD children and social settings didn't always go together.

My dreams? Shopping trip to New York, a trip on the Orient Express, afternoon tea/dinner/a stay at the Ritz/Savoy.

You know your loved ones/friends more than us.

Are there any that will organise something for you as a surprise/treat/gift?

Can you spoil yourself (and maybe someone close to you) on something luxurious?

Can you have a small gathering of close friends/family?

If your children do not like social settings... what will they like?

Remember you have a 50th year... so can celebrate over the 12 months!!

I'm generally the family organiser, if someone else actually did anything I would probably faint from shock! :rotfl:

I've no idea if they would think about organising something, eldest possibly would but he is easily distracted/procrastinates until things become too late to get sorted, youngest doesn't see birthdays as being special (even his own) and it just wouldn't occur to middle son to organise something.

It's unfortunately a by product of having two children on the autistic spectrum, what seems normal and obvious to the rest of us, is not at all normal and obvious to them. It's not because they don't care but because they are completely oblivious to it all.

A self funded luxurious treat.....would def need all the special offer vouchers I could find and still have to look down the back of the sofa :D Hence looking for cheap ideas that still give an illusion of luxury or being special.

The small gathering is more of what I had in mind but it is the devil in the detail of what kind and what we do. We don't exactly go months without seeing each other as we are quite a close knit family which regularly meets up.

The boys are better at social things now than they were, middle son is quite adept at it after four years at university, youngest just uses his coping mechanisms and takes himself off to a quiet area/outside...eldest has always been sociable.

    Welcome!

Interesting first post on this thread, more usual questions are whether you like mushrooms and how did you find us?

I’m sure there are free dating sites out there somewhere, why not join a local Facebook group and find some local activities that may give you the opportunity to meet people?

Oh goodness, dating sites - no-one would have me! :rotfl:

On a more serious note, I'm not bothered about being single, I actually enjoy it. I get to have control of the remote control and can spread out in the bed without worry. I was in quite a controlling marriage and I now value the freedom I have as a single person where I don't have to answer to/worry about passing every little thing by a partner. Yes ok, it would be nice sometimes to have someone to go out and about with but I don't think I could share my life with someone again on a full time basis.

Re spending money - It's not about being scared to spend money or being too tight/frugal but about availability as my income is low because my disabilities do not allow for working more hours. This is not a poor me thing though, again, it is what it is and with strict budgeting I still have all that I need (but not all that I want obviously) and put a few quid here and there away for emergencies/occasional low cost treats.

Gallivanting about and having a rich social life is not really an option anyway, I'm too blooming knackered/in pain from trying to stay working to do anything else but collapse in a heap at the end of a shift and it is all about resting up to be able to do the next one....a brilliant way to save money though :rotfl:
