Mine's not much better Sunshinemummy....the boys get embarrassed when I start.

Anyway, I have a question. It's my 50th next year and I want to mark it properly but I have no idea how! I know I want to do something special, have something different to the normal birthdays but don't have a scoobie what.

Any suggestions? It can't be too expensive as I don't earn much and I don't want others to do things that causes them financial stress.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I can't reply with a quote as my phone won't turn.

There's a country park near us that has a barbeque stand. When we were walking the dogs one morning, there were loads of people arriving for a mass barbeque, with big balloons indicating someone's 50th. They'd put tablecloths on the benches and everyone was bringing a tray of food.

You'd need the weather, so I wouldn't be doing it in March for my birthday, but it looked like it would have been great fun for them.

Organise a game of rounders for the energetic ones :o

Or, if you can save up, have a silent disco. It's the best thing ever. We've done it twice now and I can't emphasise how much fun it is. It's a billion times better than a normal disco. You get three channels, each one glows a different colour when and you can create your own playlists. People are much more uninhibited dancing than with a DJ, it's also great fun getting tribal, trying to get others to switch channels or dancing with people listening to something totally different to you. I've got videos from ours and they're brilliant.

The other nice thing is that you can take the headphones off and hear other people speak, so you can have an actual conversation!

    It's definitely not silent though!

If you've got a free/cheap venue then we paid £235 for 80 headsets. Well worth it!

These are the last people we used. The videos on their facebook page are the best indicator of what happens. The promo video on the website is utter pants.

I'm afraid the silent disco would be out straight away, it would be like torture for me as I can no longer dance and as a former dancer, watching everyone else dancing is soul destroying (and lonely), I also like the camaraderie of people being as one when it comes to music and the louder the better..thanks for the suggestion though.

I'm an April birthday so not sure what the weather will be like for me either, saying that though, I got married in mid March and we had a gorgeous, warm and sunny day. I've already thought along similar lines but instead of a park, going to a caravan for a weekend and having a get together with a meal but was worried the boring side of me was coming out :rotfl: plus of course, I did similar this year albeit just going to my parent's van overnight.

You can have more than one celebration anyway. It was my 40th last year and I spent the year celebrating.

DD is end of April and I've been both sunburned and snowed on!

Sue, how about a helicopter ride?

Talking of humour, I'm surprised that the naming of Operation Yellowhammer (the report on possible effects of Brexit) has not received more scrutiny.

According to WP, the yellowhammer's song has a rhythm like:
"A little bit of bread and no cheese".

It's good to know that we have civil servants with a sense of humour, even if they are having to keep very, very quiet about it now.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

DW and her brother have sold their late mother's house. Completion is due today, but the buyer's solicitors have not yet received the funds.

Reminds me of the Chinese curse "May you live in exciting times."

Are there any local boats you can privately hire that take you up/down the river, or along the coast, for 2-3 hours? You can add your own disco and then either cater yourself, buy in catering, or see if the boat owners do a package.

That way you get a nice comfy seat, bit of a view, it's different to the norm.

    There's inside/downstairs if the weather's iffy - and upstairs/on deck if it's lovely.

Prices on these things are very variable... one local one here wanted £15/person, whereas one 90 miles from here does it for about £8.

I would spend the entire time cowering on the floor, I'm absolutely petrified of heights ..nice idea though and one, despite my fear, is one to consider.

Sound idea, think there is a boat hire thing that does meals/afternoon tea fairly close by..will have to see if they are still running.

You do need to celebrate being 50.... half a century :T:T:T:T

What would make you happy? Who do you want to spend this special day with? Do you have different groups of people you want to spend time with? It is your day, tell people what you want so that the can do this for you x

But then again....I told OH I wanted to go away for my 50th, he booked a hell hole in Egypt... it really was :eek::eek: OH said that it was not that bad.... so I booked a posh hotel and checked out.......I told him he should stay if it was not that bad......he followed me and realised I was right.

I did get a full refund from the hell hole hotel... :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
