Hi LIR. Hope all's well for you and FIR too.

I don’t know how well he feels today. He got stuck in traffic for two hours this morning and is stuck in traffic again this evening. We both like that he often gets to work two days a week from home now, and most weeks at least one day a week.

I'm hopefully okay now, thanks, LIR.

I had half a metre of colon removed, but fortunately the lump they found was pre-cancerous. So, that's okay. But, it was a really big operation, and I've got a 6 inch scar to prove it.

I had a serious problem with my water works that was causing kidney disease. Before they removed my colon they scanned me, looking for secondary cancers, and they spotted this kidney issue.

The treatment I had for the water works problem only works in around half the patients, plus it takes up to 6 months to be fully effective. So, I won't know for some months whether I'm one of the lucky ones. In the meantime, I'm going back for checks to see whether my kidneys are filling up with fluid again. So far, so good.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Ah, glad they spotted it. Kidneys are pretty incredible organs really. We vastly underestimate the work they do and the impact on the body. I hope it is fully effective.

I bumped into an old school friend, who has stage 5 kidney disease. He's basically hanging on hoping for a transplant one day.

    My uncle got one :)

Another friend got 'the call' recently but the kidney was no good. It was out too long :(

    There's hope, though.

They used to say if you could press a magic button to make an organic disease disappear, the one that would add most to human lifespan would be kidney disease.

We were discussing on another board that if we donated our organs at death we would add about 56 years of life collectively to those who survive us.

My aunt had a kidney transplant too, absolutely changed her life.

LIR!! So nice to see you, you have been missed xx

Quick synopsis of what has been happening with me... all 3 boys have left school and went to uni. Eldest graduated a couple of years ago and has a good job in the next big town and is living with his partner in an absolutely mahoosive flat (you could fit my house in it twice over), no children on the way yet although he would dearly love some. Middle son is just graduating but has had some issues with his mental health, he is acting as my carer in the short term. Youngest is just about to enter his third year of an integrated Masters degree in computer science with an AI and gaming specialism - biggest surprise to him so far was getting a high 2.1 in his maths module, the subject he struggled so much with at GCSE.

As for me, I found myself a nice little job. It's not swanky or well paid but we have a lovely little team, they are brilliant with adjustments for my disabilities and my social life has improved so much because it is in the town centre and I am seeing a multitude of people on the way from and to my car going to and from work. I also did my usual and rose very quickly from the lowest on the totem pole to number two in command within a year despite saying I wanted somewhere I could just go in, do my job and go home with no responsibility...think that lasted all of the first shift before I got peed off at the lack of organisation and procedures in place for new starters and vowed to get it changed!

Oh and I am still single....and I really don't mind at all.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
