Possibly and probably!
Buyer protection isn't the same in other countries.
isn't relevant in the UK.buyer protection does not cover items lost in transit, surprised at that
The devil is in the detail.0 -
Well, the seller now has to relist the item, and may have potentially lost a sale from a genuine buyer. They have done nothing wrong, whereas the OP had buyer's remorse after winning the item, and is entirely in the wrong.theonlywayisup wrote: »Messed around? A buyer asks to cancel. This is a collection only item, the seller hasn't posted it. What sort of "badly messed around" is there?
It's a shame that eBay don't penalise irresponsible activities like the OP's - and I say that as somebody who is purely a buyer on eBay and never a seller. Once I agree to purchase something, I honour that, even if - for whatever reason - I no longer require the item.Philip0 -
Just for clarity, when I opened this thread I stated that the item was not going suit my requirements. In truth I only stated this for expedience. The real story is much longer but the outcome is much the same so I just didnt bother to go through it with you all at the time.
In fact, the seller did not respond to my messages day after day after day of me emailing her, trying to persuade her to call me to arrange a time to come over, occassionally getting a lame email back saying "tuesday might be OK if someone is around" but not providing an address or a contact phone number in order to make a more accurate plan. I needed an item like the one she had for sale much sooner that she was capable of arranging collection of the one she was attempting to sell so after a good week of poor communication on her part I had to seek an alternative elsewhere.
Apologies if anyone considers ive misled anyone but I thought that using a bit of creative license to save you the trouble of reading a similar paragraph to the one above I believed that simply saying "the item did not meet my requirements" would be more succinct.0 -
This poor seller has something they don't want, a buyer wins it, pays on paypal and then decides they don't want it. The seller loses time, now has to relist and the item is probably in the way somewhere. They have also probably lost an alternative buyer.theonlywayisup wrote: »Messed around? A buyer asks to cancel. It may not be the best outcome for the seller but they didn't post the item out or see a SNAD/INR.
At the very least I hope you at least showed some sense of responsibility and gave an apology.
Yes you can use paypal to get your money back, simply file an INR.
I would urge you remember this experience next time you are inconvenienced by somebody else's thoughtlessness.
You can probably tell by my response that I've had a few of these type of buyers, most commonly the type who can't read the location in the list and in the description. They then decide they want me to meet them halfway for a £10 sale!0 -
As a business of course I have to accept all cancellations and do so politely and without a fuss. However, whilst I am obliged to accept a return or cancellation I am not obliged to ever have to deal with these buyers again, so always block these indecisive and time wasting buyers.
Recent history suggests that those buyers who are indecisive like this often cause other issues as well. I had one recently, had no idea what they were doing, item was too cheap for it to be a scam yet buyer wasted lots of my time and some of my money. I think I posted about it on here at the time. Bought something, I wrapped and bought postage immediately, then a few hours later, before item was posted they asked to cancel as they changed their mind and couldn't really afford the item (less than £9 including postage). I cancelled and had to go through the RM process to recover the cost of my postage label, I also lost the 20p paypal fee. Buyer was blocked.
That same evening item sold again and I got a message saying it was the same buyer but using her husband's account as he said they could afford it, but could I address it to her name and not his- I re wrapped item, and next day I posted it with both names on label (having blocked her husbands account as well by this time).
Later that day I got a cancellation request saying if it wasn't posted could she please cancel as something else had come up - I told her to return item when it arrived for a full refund. 3 days later I got a case open for INR and my standard 2nd class postage didn't show as delivered- luckily though the next day the item showed as delivered (at a date earlier than the INR!) so I phoned ebay, showed them delivery confirmation and case was closed in my favour.
Never heard from buyer again - so I have no idea what that was all about.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Go and get the item and then sell it again. Seller should not have to be inconvenienced beause you made an error of judgement.
You made a bid to buy the item, not to reserve it so you can decide if you really want it or not.
Edit, re read full thread. Cant believe you lodged a case against the seller.0 -
I always put a period of time the item needs to be picked up by.
I always stress it can be collected by mutual agreement -which means at a time that suits us both.0 -

See post #35; only error of judgement was to find a seller that couldn't arrange collection sensibly. Not even wrong0 -

I also have buyers who want to talk for say 10, 20 minutes about a 99p item but If I were to explain the mathematics and that I need to earn minimum wage I expect the buyers thinking / expression would be...
