No its not that, its that society has no answers for these problems. If anyone had anything effective we wouldn't have 1.4 million alcoholics in the country
I tend not to like religion but maybe this is one of those things it might have a part in helping a little. But then again I have no idea maybe im being stupid in guessing that maybe a religious person who actively goes to church or whatever will have some additional support to quit or never start an addiction0 -
Is that your expert medical opinion, doctor?
Here was me thinking the main causes of obesity were lack of exercise and poor diet... Mainly due to increasingly sedentary lifestyles, and poor dietary choices strongly linked to education and marketing.
Any sources to back up your claim of mental dysfunction being the cause?
Flat rax... Hahaha, you guys are actually trolls, cant believe i thought we were having a serious discussion. You got me good.0 -
there should just be a flat tax system rather then a progressive one. maybe a flat 30% tax would be much fairer?
no I dont believe that.
there should be a progressive tax system because of the very reasons we have been discussing. I think what we have in the uk is a good balance ie no more 'progressive'
Also a flat rate wouldn't be 30% it would be closer to 45% to meet all the commitments.0 -

Lifelong problem with weight means person is overweight
One day loses their job, cant get another
Needs to use foodbank
The weight hasnt been put on at the point of need. The weight is not an indicator of legitimately needing to use a foodbank or not.
So not just fat because they buy chips and eat mars bars with their benefits then?0 -

i never said all fat people have dysfunctional mental problems. all i said those eating copius amounts i.e. large quantities are likely to be suffering a mental problem causing them to eat this way. this spills over to other areas in life and hey you have someone who has a !!!!!! life because of their mental problems.
of course you get everyday fat people who overeat but not massive amounts and it comes down to simple calorie control (by eating less and/or exercises) as well as age/metabolic reaons.0 -

Your first sentence makes no sense. All you know is that what we have now is a system that isnt 100pc effective. You assume that if we stopped alcoholic assistance programs things wouldnt be a lot worse. How ridiculous. It also shows how little you know about addiction.
Hmm, religion and community having positive effects, who knew? Have you considered that those positive effects are the reason councils provide things like leisure centres and community halls? So people can be social? Sounds like the sort of thing we should all contribute towards because its good for all of us, even if we dont use them ourselves we could bendfit from others doing better in their lives.0 -

well clearly if people are still addicted then there is no effective solution right? you contradict yourself and you look very stupid.0 -

Everything is caused by the brain
The desire for alcohol or heroin is no more or less a function of the brain than the desire for a cheesecake. We are animals with a very unique self aware software but animals we still are.
Advertising is an interesting idea, I wonder if it works on cabbages. If we advertise cabbages will cabbage sales rocket?0 -

i rather have all these things privatised - leisure centres an community halls. you get better service that way and will be cheaper. plus you wont have people abusing it. that way demand will meet supply. so you dont get waste.0
