Well done Candyb for selling your first cake. Everyone is really doing well!!!
My friend loved her pink cake but havn't tried selling any yet. Think I'll have to get my skates on!!
Though I'de try some different nappies so I bought Tesco size 2 (instead of Pampers 2) but I don't like them. They don't seem as soft and they are wider at the front. Has anyone else tried different ones? I wondered about Boots own make?
In Tesco today they were selling packs of scratch mitts (2prs) for 25p instead of 75p.
Becs - hope you have a successful day at your fair!!! Are you going to post any pictures? Love seeing the pictures!!!
Shelley - managed to sell my bed today! one thing out of the way!!!!0 -
Well done Shelley! Have you seen there's a nappy cake business for sale on ebay! They're starting the bid at £600 to basically buy the name and site. They buy in the cakes and sell them on but only have 1-2 orders a week so based on that valuation you could sell your business for at least £1800! Why on earth would anyone want to buy a website with so few sales? May aswell just do it yourself and save the £600!
No blister yet! Not sure on the size 3 pampers though, definately going to have to use some shredded paper to cover between the layers- oh dear someone else uses that do you think that would be ok?

Hey watch out you may have an email !!! LOL
I did see the business on Ebay I couldn't believe there were so little sales either. Think we are better off doing as we are - unless people know what nappy cakes are they wouldn't search on them.Little Miss Chatterbox

Well done Moonpenny - more space to fill with nappy cakes !! LOL:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Little Miss Chatterbox

Shelley,
I think that's exactly the problem. Until nappy cakes get some major publicity never going to be massive business. We're going to do the website but just do it ourselves (if I ever dare take the phototent out the bag again!).
Moonpenny,
I will try and post some pics although definately not going to look as good as Shelley's stall did with her lovely tablecloth! Getting rid of your bed is a bit of a drastic way to make space for Nappy cake making isn't it?:rotfl: :rotfl:

just wanted to say good luck to becs for the weekend, and well done Shelley on your sales as well...you 2 seem to be really making a go of this....long may it continue...i've sold 5 so far, mainly by word of mouth, but only been making them since july so pleased with that. My friend who has a lingerie shop in town has put 2 in her window for me and that has generated a lot of interest. A lady yesterday stopped and said she had just paid £70 for a one at a local florist and it wasn't as nice as mine...hope I don't get any hassle off her for selling them as well....but as someone said earlier, its a free market and no one has exclusive rights...I hope..LOL0

I'm off work today so I will be busily rolling nappies to get some stock made up...just in case....used some of my boots points yesterday to buy some lovely muslin cloths from Boots they were 3 for £6 and match the bibs they also sell so look nice on the cakes. its the only place I have seen them. There were some gorgeous sets in Tesco yesterday for £10 for anyone who puts a lot of clothes in theirs...hat, mitts, babygro, slepsuits, about 7 items altogether i think....gorgeous0

Hi Proofraider,
The box of cupcakes I did with socks and hat and bib etc, I just rolled them together and secured with a band then sort of fluffed the top about abit if that makes sense. It's a bit of trial and error how you roll them to get the best effect, just play around with them to see how they look best. I've got to do a few more boxes for craft fayre this weekend and another order at work. I've bought some of the card muffin cases to try instead of the paper fairy cake cases as I think this will hold them better and hide the bottoms of them better. You can get the cake boxes either from a friendly bakers (as my first box was!) or the bag and box man online, the link was posted earlier. www.bagnboxman.co.uk
Hi CandyB101,
Congrats on your first sale! Hopefully it will lead to many more. Shelley and I have found that word of mouth is definately the best start!
Hi Liz,
I agree with Shelley regarding the nappies although am using pampers size 3 for my cakes for craft fayre this weekend simply because they were cheapest and making 9 cakes for the weekend didn't want to spend too much! I do cover my tiers though so not too bad. Good luck and can't wait to see some pics!

Thanks everyone for the lovely compliments and wishes of luck! I've got the basic cakes assembled now so tomorrow night will be putting the items in and wrapping blankets and muslins around.
One thing I will say is I tried size 3 nappies hoping I wouldn't use as many and I've found it makes very little if any difference so think I'll stick to the size 2's as agree with Shelley they're plainer.
Proofraider I just did 4 cupcakes using plain white socks. There's 3 socks in each cake. I've used the card muffin cases also bought from ebay and they're topped with a red glass button (love the idea of ferrero rocher though!) I've posted some pics below.
