    Yippee,
I am so proud of myself, yesterday I sold my first nappy cake !!!!
It was for the owner's son at a busy restaurant, so fingers crossed word will get around.
Although really starting to panic now, have just booked a stall at a local autumn fayre.
Need to get the details translated into spanish !!!

Need to shop ..... need to shop ..... need to shop !!!!

Thats great news Candy keep up the good work :T:T:T:T:T

I`ve read most of the forum but have to leave for work now.. so sorry if this has been asked before..

How many nappies would I need for a 3 tear.?

Also does anyone secure the boards to there nappy cakes? Or does the sellophane hold it?

    Thanks !

Hi Liz be prepared its addictive!!!
I would suggest using approx 40 - 45 newborn size 2 nappies - obviously a few less for bigger nappies. The reason I use size 2 nappies is because the nappies are "whiter" if that makes sense - size 3's have got a bit of green on them. I prefer the look of the cake with the size 2 nappies. I know this is personal choice though and it also depends on whether you have muslins covering the tiers or not. Some people prefer to use bigger nappies so the cake lasts longer.
I use double sided tape on the cake board and this works well in keeping the cake attached to the cake board and stops movement.
Don't forget elastic bands to roll the nappies with.
Heres a pic of one of mine using size 2 nappies:

Good luck and don't forget to post a pic when its done x

  • I love these sock cupcakes! Want to make some for Christmas - can anyone direct me to the instructions, please? If you just curl the socks round, how do you get them to stay in place?

    Hi Proofraider,
The box of cupcakes I did with socks and hat and bib etc, I just rolled them together and secured with a band then sort of fluffed the top about abit if that makes sense. It's a bit of trial and error how you roll them to get the best effect, just play around with them to see how they look best. I've got to do a few more boxes for craft fayre this weekend and another order at work. I've bought some of the card muffin cases to try instead of the paper fairy cake cases as I think this will hold them better and hide the bottoms of them better. You can get the cake boxes either from a friendly bakers (as my first box was!) or the bag and box man online, the link was posted earlier. www.bagnboxman.co.uk

    Hi CandyB101,

Congrats on your first sale! Hopefully it will lead to many more. Shelley and I have found that word of mouth is definately the best start!

    Hi Liz,

I agree with Shelley regarding the nappies although am using pampers size 3 for my cakes for craft fayre this weekend simply because they were cheapest and making 9 cakes for the weekend didn't want to spend too much! I do cover my tiers though so not too bad. Good luck and can't wait to see some pics!

  • Becs just want to wish you all the very best of luck with your craft fayre on the weekend - will be thinking of you slaving away making your nappy cakes this week. It is hard work but really worth it:j:j:j

    Thanks Shelley,

Started tonight, just rolled 208 pampers! Got some of the thin cake boards from bagnboxman that arrived today and some cake boxes for the cupcakes!

Also placed an order with flowerexperts today for more cellophane and pullbows! So all ready to go. Tomorrow I'm going to be assembling the tiers then friday will be putting the blankets and muslins round leaving saturday to just wrap them hopefully! Not going mad, only doing 9 plus 3 boxes of cupcakes. Treating it more of a leaflet giving exercise rather than sales on the day!

Are you still busy with your orders or have you moved on to sweetie bouquets!

Wow you are really organised:T:T Have you got a blister on your finger from rolling the nappies - I had a right beauty. LOL
I think you will do really well on the day - most people have never heard of them so you will generate lots of interest. Good luck :j
I moved on to sock monkeys but they are doing my head in at mo so started thinking about Mam's birthday today and thought about a candy bouquet. So thats my new project.
Been really busy with nappy cakes this week though sold 6 !!!!

Well done Shelley! Have you seen there's a nappy cake business for sale on ebay! They're starting the bid at £600 to basically buy the name and site. They buy in the cakes and sell them on but only have 1-2 orders a week so based on that valuation you could sell your business for at least £1800! Why on earth would anyone want to buy a website with so few sales? May aswell just do it yourself and save the £600!
No blister yet! Not sure on the size 3 pampers though, definately going to have to use some shredded paper to cover between the layers- oh dear someone else uses that do you think that would be ok?
